Portland Me Sept 25 Police man Daniel Gould shot himself in the head last night intentionally and is very low today with little chance of recovery.
In Waterville Me on September 25 a 27 year old Burton Merrill of North Parkman died from a rifle accidental discharge. He had placed the rifle against a tree while chopping wood, it toppled, the rifle discharged into his abdomen, and he died at home hours later after being aided by his father and neighbor.
In New Orleans on September 25 the yellow fever outbreak shows fewer than 100 cases and 15 deaths, a mortality near 15 percent. The Board of Health moves to prosecute Dr Monluzin for not reporting a suspicious case after he later outlined Miss Dreyfous as ill with yellow fever and her death followed. An investigation continued into the case.
Report notes Miss Dreyfous became ill about six days prior and that Dr Monluzin failed to report the case, highlighting delays in medical notification and accountability.
A fire in a rear woodshed of the Musee theatre in Toronto spread to a nearby warehouse as patrons fled the building. A fire engine with horses bolted after a steam vent explosion, fatally striking 11 year old Bertie Escot and injuring seven firefighters and several citizens.

A Shelbyville dispatch reports Flat Rock in Shelby County was shaken by Wesley Nading shooting his wife and then wounding himself. Nading, a wealthy resident said to be despondent and occasionally deranged, remains alive but not expected to recover. Neighbors cited prior threats against his wife during those spells.
The annual report of Gen Dumont United States supervising inspector general of steam vessels states about 650 million passengers were carried during the year. Accidents causing loss of life totaled 26, with 183 lives lost from various causes, down 58 from 1896. Of the fatalities 46 were passengers and 137 crew members.
Rockland reports the Rice and Hutchins factory shut down several departments at noon and plans further closures if the strike with workers continues. Good year and sole-fasteners halted production Thursday. E. T. Wright & Co. status remains unchanged as tensions rise.

The dry goods market shows large incoming business as cool weather nears. West orders soften but New England buyers rise. silks and woolens stay firm, with scarce desirable dress fabrics. Mills stay busy, prices for woolens still below raw costs, and staples hold despite cotton declines.
George Geryot a Billerica farmer suffering delirium tremens attempted suicide by hanging in a police station last night. Arrested yesterday afternoon at 4 by Officers Crowley and Walsh for drunkenness, he was found hanging to the door of his cell by Officer Sparks at about 8 after patrol. Sparks cut him down and saved his life.
In a hurried rescue, Lieutenant Kew and Officer James Howard found signs of life after 15 minutes of work on the body. The man, later identified as 33 year old Geryot, regained consciousness and struggled violently before being taken by ambulance to the city farm.
Mrs. Sally Brown of Billerica celebrates her 96th birthday with four generations present at her son Deacon Alfred Brown's home. Born Sept 25 1801 in Candia New Hampshire she married Jonathan Brown at 22 and raised seven sons, four living. Her life spanned Dracut and Billerica with recalls of Daniel Webster.

The Sixth Senatorial District Republican Committee met at headquarters with ten members. George W. Poore was named chairman and D. C. Parsons of Shirley secretary. The group voted to hold the convention in Ayer at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, in the lower town hall.
In the Hadley Police Court this morning 16 drunks were charged with drunkenness. John H Quinn and Patrick Kernan were fined one dollar each for drunkenness, Kernan five dollars for disturbing the peace. Lucien B Knowles pleaded guilty to common drunkard and was sent to the Soldiers home. Thomas Reagan fined thirty eight dollars for assault and battery on Charles Dean. Thomas O'Brien fined one dollar for drunkenness and fifteen dollars for assault on Officer Curran. Thomas Magee charged with embezzlement but released on own recognizance after settlement with Staluto. Frank P Donohoe placed on probation for one month for failing to abide by court order in a drunkenness sentence. William A Wannamaker pleaded guilty to peddling without a license and fined three dollars.
On Tuesday September 28 club rooms reopen from 8 to 5 to receive annual dues and issue membership tickets. Dues must be paid before Monday October 4 or membership is lost. Prompt payment and early notice of withdrawal are urged.

Miss Susan De Forest Day, owner of the steam yacht Scythian and a rare New York Yacht Club member, reports theft of diamonds and other jewelry valued at $6000. Police have no identified suspect, and authorities believe the robbery occurred aboard the Scythian.

The funeral for Louise Teague was held yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the home of her parents Thomas and Mary Teague at 405 Broadway. The burial took place in the Catholic cemetery under the direction of Charles Molloy.
The George W. Hunt country store at South Sudbury containing the post office was burglarized early Friday. Shoes boots and clothing were stolen and goods roughed. The intruder shaved in the store after drawing curtains, using a razor and soap. This is the fourth nighttime robbery at the store in ten years, with Hunt once firing at a burglar who entered.

Fire alarm from box 42 at 5.39 pm reported a high fire in the Middlesex Market corner toward streets, caused by an electric wire. No damage recorded.
