George Wedgewood, about 18, was knocked by an express wagon while riding with head down to beat a storm. He was impaled on a wagon shaft and died of a six inch abdominal wound. In the Wyoming district several miners upset with their employers are exploiting the current crisis to push for strike action. The Red Ash Mine workers have scheduled a mass meeting this afternoon to discuss the issue.
Reports from St. Johns Newfoundland say a steamer was wrecked last night near Cape Race. The vessel’s whistle was heard many times and boat fragments drifted ashore this morning. Authorities fear all hands are lost.
The Messenger reports Sept 14 at eleven o'clock at night inhabitants of a small Arctic Russian village observed for five minutes what is believed to be Andree’s balloon. Officials think the object may indeed be his craft.
A section of an arch under construction for a new reservoir in Wellesley Massachusetts collapsed this morning. One worker was killed and three were badly injured as the arch fell without warning while about a dozen men stood nearby.
Washington reports the President named Charles M. Dickinson of New York as consul to Constantinople and Benjamin F. Clark of New Hampshire as consul at Pernambuco, Brazil, on September 18.

Roy Hammond was thrown from a rear seat of a triplet five miles from Haverhill in Georgetown woods Friday. He was struck by F M Conway as he rode past the vehicle and was found unconscious with recovery doubtful. Also, the Union Congregational church of Haverhill accepted the resignation of Rev. George Benedict, who had served five years after coming from Union Church Boston where he assisted Rev. Dr Boynton.
A 15 year old J F Buxton was arrested in Peabody on suspicion of arson after he confessed to starting the Sunday night fire on September 12 and denied knowledge of other fires. He faces arraignment on an incendarism charge.
Plans for the Moody street school have arrived but specifications will not be ready until Tuesday. A report notes many applications for evening school teaching positions and 19 candidates took the morning High school exam. No new typhoid cases. Tax bills collection continues. some men allegedly evade taxes with political protection, and they retaliate as settlements are made. Cookson Spanks of Melrose, 20, and Patrick Daley, 18, of Revere, were sent to Brighton with live pigs. Daley was found dead in a wagon, his neck broken, as Spanks, intoxicated, could not explain the incident. Spanks claims Daley fell from his seat. he remains in custody awaiting medical examiner findings.
Tammany leaders buzzed Friday night over Judge Robert A. Vanwyck as the missing link between Richard Croker and the Democratic mayoral nomination. Vanwyck has Croker’s backing and support from John Co. Sheehan and Hugh McLaughlin, while Croker himself remains out of the race but aims to name the nominee.
Augustus Cook, the actor who played Napoleon in Kathryn Kidder’s Madame Sans Gene troupe, is jailed in New York on a charge of attempting to kill his wife a baby and a maid. The women were cut with an axe but survived. Cook offered no explanation upon arrest and is believed insane.

A Centre Street resident identified as Butters was robbed of $80 yesterday at the fair. Two thieves, described as right fingered, approached him as he viewed exhibits and robbed his pockets. The loss was reported to police and investigators are pursuing the case.

Guy B Richardson son of W W Richardson has gone to Andover for Phillips Academy studies after passing exams last week. Mr and Mrs Sumner A Byam will receive friends on the 25th anniversary of their marriage on Tuesday Sept 28 from 7 to 10 at 185 Foster Street. Their cards bear the words no presents.
