Concord witnesses the funeral of Emma C. Butters who was slain in her home by John M. Harris. Rev. Loren B. Macdonald led services at Main Street residence with close friends in attendance. Interment followed at Sleepy Hollow amid strong public emotion.
Indianapolis dispatch reports Mayor Finch of Ellwood denies a tale that local Black residents were ordered to leave within a week. The Anti-Lynching Association protested to Governor Mount, who replied to Finch, confirming the denial.
The Chabot observatory will dispatch a special expedition to India to observe the total solar eclipse. Lead astronomer Buckhallter will head the party, with expenses funded by William Pearson of San Francisco.

Thomas Kennedy a sixty year old school janitor and war veteran of Troy New York fell from a window in his sleep causing a fatal neck fracture at an early hour today. The incident occurred in Troy New York as Kennedy walked in his sleep.
Washington reports a Pennsylvania pensioner repaid 350 to the government admitting he had obtained the pension by fraud. The conscience contribution follows a formal acknowledgment and sets a precedent for restitution in similar cases.
Middlesex Probate Court at East Cambridge held an all day session with many wills approved. Alice Marie Barrett of Waltham named Ella M. Barrett executrix and left a $2500 policy. estate valued about $1400. Alexander W. Thayer of Natick died abroad leaving $300000 to Harvard University for the Thayer scholarship fund. Benjamin J. Greely of Newton left no will and a hearing was set for October 1.
The Greely estate valued at about $12 000 in realty and 500 in personal property faces contest from Mary Ella Burgess of Brookline as next of kin and Susan L. Greely claiming widower status. Special administrator Cassius K Powers of Brookline was appointed August 20 with an October 10 hearing on Mrs Buckminster of Beverly's petition for attachment of her husband's property. The petition notes a desertion on July 20 and funds allegedly in Shoe and Leather National Bank. a prior $10 000 writ returnable Sept 7.
In the police court this morning three of ten drunks were released while five were fined one dollar for drunkenness. Patrick Ryan, a pensioner, was placed on probation. Others faced fines from five to twenty dollars for larceny and neglect of wife. A case of arson and malicious mischief led to a $500 bond for Patrick Hallinan, with further proceedings set.

The man who shot himself in the St. Charles hotel in Ballston near Saratoga on August 27 has been identified as George H. Snow of Winchester New Hampshire a former town official and postmaster. The remains were brought to Winchester Tuesday and buried.

The funeral for Gladys Sanborn daughter of Fred H. Sanborn was held Tuesday afternoon from the Fred street home with Rev. Baker of Hillside church officiating. Burial followed in Edson cemetery under C. M. Young & Co. Funeral services for Mrs. Abbie Davis were at her son’s residence 417 Wilder street Tuesday afternoon officiated by Rev. Merriam, with relatives in attendance. Burial also in Edson cemetery under C. M. Young & Co.

John R. Chamberlain aged 64 died in Pelham. Annie Fielden aged 29 died at 4 Rundlett court. Mrs. Jane W. Maker aged 82 died at 80 Hanks street with funeral Thursday at 3 pm. John F. Meaney aged 62 of North Billerica, member of Royal Arcanum and AOH division 11, funeral Friday morning. Clara Josephine Shea aged 10 months, child of Thomas H. and Christiana Shea, died at 76 Suffolk street.
