Their son drowned years earlier caused estrangement that ended when the daughter fell gravely ill and died in Omaha. The couple forgave, kissed the child, and she retires from the stage. Alice Neilson sent condolences from Paris.
John B. Sabre a Merrimack street grain dealer reported a slick Saturday scheme in which a man claiming Parker family ties ordered 300 bushels oats four tons hay and more. Two teams loaded the grain to be shipped to a Parker premises then to be moved later by the stranger who sold it to ex Alderman Dickinson for cash around a hundred dollars. Police seek the medium height slender stranger described as well dressed and likely to have done similar in other cities.
A telephone message to city hall says Joseph Lawson formerly of Lowell, an employee of Springfield Cornice, was killed this morning by a fall from a building. Lawson served in the Sixth Regiment in Porto Rico and the Philippines.
Robert V. Saunders acting as superintendent of the city farm has received official notice from the attorney general that quo warranto proceedings will be filed in the superior court on the first Monday in October. Saunders expects the notice this week.
A brief meeting saw the water board approve bills and oversee poor relief, with three aid applications considered. Two requests for rent assistance were reviewed while Mr Holgate argued department finances cannot sustain further out door aid and blamed the overseers. The board voted to grant aid in one case and to have the secretary investigate the remaining two.
Officer O Connell found a newborn’s body floating in a bottle at Blackbrook near two prior discoveries. The body was sent to Undertaker Brooks for burial. Miss Harad's shorthand school, Hil dreth building.
John A McPhail faces arson charges after a Chelmsford street grocery fire. Police and fire officials testified about witnessed actions, insurance status, and statements McPhail gave before and after the blaze. The arrest followed reports of late store hours and altered stories, with key testimony from patrolman Fox and Inspector Allen.
Harlan P Young of 90 Appleton Street told Boston Police Station 5 that a gold Elgin open-face watch was lifted from his pocket near the Washington and Dover streets crowd. Freeman E Dennard reported a lodge badge snatched from his west lapel at Pleasant Street and Shawmut Avenue. Edward Vincent, 28, of 15 Pembroke Street, was later jailed on theft charges.
