The funeral for Laurence J. Smith drew thousands, with Catholic and non-Catholic attendees filling the church and street as the city paid solemn tribute. Clergy, Foresters, and civic leaders joined the mass, choir, and processional in a praiseful service concluding at St. Patrick's cemetery with a large floral display and the Vacant Chair played.

The session opened at 9 30 am led by Rev James Mudge D D and featured reviews of Bownes Theory of Knowledge and reminiscences from pastors including humorous and poignant tales. Noon collation followed in the vestry and the afternoon continued with devotional exercises and further discussions.
The Divine Healer Schrader arrives in Lowell offering cures for the lame blind and halt after a successful spring run. He is stationed at 59 Tyler Street and urges early attendance before the crowd gathers.
Thomas Monahan a railroad worker in Gorham New Hampshire killed coal man Joseph Gauthier during a midnight quarrel and fatally shot Selectman Woodbury Gates who attempted to arrest him. He later forced a man on the tracks to walk around the cemetery before being captured. A third man William Thoits was found dead near the track. Monahan held for the April term as Gates hung between life and death.

In Rome Ohio on October 26 a dispute between W T McCormack and his bookkeeper Metz escalated into violence. Metz shot McCormack through the heart, killing him instantly.
Five children Henry 16 Helena 13 Etta M 11 Everett 8 Blanche 5 sought George P Robinson a Central street tailor who came from Boston on a train yesterday. Police took them to the station and later the day nursery. They learned the father was in Lowell jail for unpaid fines from a police court case for drunkenness. Judge Hadley pardoned him after Secretary Martin J Courtney of the Overseers of the Poor brought the matter up. The family was sent back to Boston.
Mr. John H. Lee and Mr. John H. Colby of the Boston Board of Aldermen Gen Curtis Guild of the Governor's staff and Mr Edward A Brackett state fish commissioner will visit Lowell tomorrow at the invitation of Mr C I Hood to inspect Hood's Laboratory and Farm Alderman Lee has long been a cattle market reporter and takes a keen interest in Jersey cattle
Both branches of the City Council meet tonight to repass resolutions authorizing borrowing of $10,000 for sewers and $10,000 for a new bridge. The resolutions were ruled irregular by the city auditor and treasurer due to improper drafting.
In Police Court Hadley J seven defendants were fined one dollar each this morning. Carl Brett an old offender received six months at the state farm. Henry Magee cited for embezzling was continued to November 8.
The Phillips-Andover Mandolin and Guitar club will not perform at the boat house on Wednesday October 27. Dancing will start at 8 o'clock instead of the scheduled 9.

In South Chelmsford on October 25, Antoine Ayotte, aged six, died of diphtheria. Also on October 25, Charles Fish, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Co F M Fish, aged sixteen months, died.
A small blaze in the old carpenter shop at the city farm called out firemen by telephone on Monday and gave them about half an hour of work. George E. Spaulding plans to move from Chelmsford Centre to the North village for the winter due to current business needs.
A large Foresters funeral in Lowell honors a deceased high Foresters official. Procession of Knights of Sherwood Forest and multiple courts, with bands, black draperies, and a hearse bearing a simple black casket to the church and then to Stackpole street. Notable pallbearers include representatives from ancient orders and youth groups.
