Mrs Charles H Brakenridge of Fitchburg cut her throat while temporarily insane. She was found dead after family woke. Born West Brookfield 62 years ago. Conductor Mr Brakenridge. In Boston, Daniel Cadogan age 5 died and Maurice J Maloney age 8 injured when a pile of ganks toppled, burying them. Cadogan died at home.
The Lowell One Price Clothing company expresses gratitude to Messrs. Putnam & Son of Lowell for suspending business and closing their establishment to honor the memory of Laurence J. Smith, their late manager. The act is valued as a higher motive in business than rivalry.
In Providence Rhode Island at 2 this morning Patrol man Frank M. Luby mounted police shot and killed Thomas M. Howe after Howe, intoxicated, fired on him and wounded him in the bark as Lt ordered him home. Howe died at the station after fleeing behind a tree. He leaves a wife and five children.
An express from Providence to Boston collided with a combination passenger train at Canton Junction at 8 55 this morning. The engine and a passenger car were badly damaged but no injuries were reported. The crash occurred in heavy fog with signals obscured.
Chicago reports Dr. Helen Densmore and her husband arrived to push for Florence Maybrick’s release from a London prison. They expect her freedom within about two months, following four years of advocacy.
Cincinnati police report farmer Henry T. Galloway shot and mortally wounded by two white highwaymen late last night. They robbed him of a large sum and fled after the attack as he failed to move quickly, the incident marking a violent robbery and lethal outcome.
Washington dispatch describes Minister Woodford sending Spain's reply to Secretary Sherman's note. The cipher message arrived early this morning and is being translated for department review. The development concerns ongoing diplomacy between Spain and the United States.

A body found in the Merrimack River near the Boston and Lowell bridge in Lawrence was identified anew as Clowes Hagerman after an earlier positive ID as Joseph Courcie. Two head wounds were noted. the body to be sent to Queensbury, New Brunswick, for interment.

A Monday Worcester meeting of the general committee in charge of the Nansen reception voted to invite all city Scandinavians to join the escort meeting the explorer at the depot and guiding him to the Day State house. Carl W. Bildt chosen marshal for a reception under the Norwegian Singing club auspices with a public banquet after the lecture.
The Suffolk Supreme court under Judge Knowlton confirmed Sam Chapin as receiver of the Odd Fellows Mutual Benefit Association of Lowell. He holds 5944 dollars, with 5513 after expenses for preferred claims. Total member assessments amount to 53054 dollars, and a 10 percent dividend is recommended to be paid.
John Garity aged 46 brother of Henry Garity proprietors of the Far ragut house died suddenly Monday night of apoplexy. He formerly was a police officer and held several city government posts. He leaves brother Henry in the city and another brother James in San Francisco.
Mrs. Joseph Therien of TL South street received a telegram Tuesday announcing the death of her husband at Des Rivieres Quebec in a railroad accident. Therien had left Lowell Monday night to manage a farm he owned there. He was a carpenter by trade and well known in Lowell.
James O Atherton died at St Johns hospital Sunday night after a two month illness. A well known citizen and a member of Post 42 he served through the war. He leaves three sons Otis R and George E and Judson and two daughters Mrs John Lorman of Melrose Highlands and one in California.

In Police Court Hadley this morning James Largy and John Ryan were sentenced to the state farm for six and seven months respectively for drunkenness and trespass John Ryan received a six month jail term. Patrick Fells was sent to the work house for five months for drunkenness.
The proposed state highway from Lowell to Lawrence would run parallel to the riverbank railroad. The railway company has reserved a width of 60 feet, having only filled in the track portion.
The WCTU announces an evangelistic temperance meeting at the Eliot church on Thursday the 28th at 3 o clock. Rev. Sarah A. Dixon of Tyngsboro will lead the services. All are cordially invited.
Arthur Wright a boy about 12 and son of Owen Wright of North Chelmsford fell from his bicycle yesterday afternoon and dislocated his elbow.

Matinee Whist club met at Mrs F C Austins. Frank Sproat won first with 42 points. Geo H Conley chaired and Kate G Wells of the State Board visited Lowell Normal School. Wells gave a brief address. Tea given by Mr and Mrs Charles Upton for Mrs Lizette Cobb and Miss Kate Emery. Mrs 8 W Clark spoke on photography. Udell Anthony attended from Woodstock Vermont.
In this city on Oct 25 John Garity aged 46 died. On Oct 26 Myrtie E Symonds widow of Albert C Symonds aged 55 years. Funeral tomorrow at 2 pm from 103 Parsons Street, friends invited.
