Mrs Eliza B Fiske 82 died at her home 246 Appleton street Lowell after a long illness. Born Eliza B Cutler in West Medway she married George W Fiske Oct 18 1837. Two surviving children Henry B Fiske and Sarah C Fiske. Warren Eugene and Emma E. Storer preceded in death. Funeral Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Appleton street residence.
Philip Lynch a well known grocer died suddenly at his home 60 Whipple street yesterday at age 47 from heart disease. Born in Ireland he came to the United States as a boy and trained in Gorham street before running a grocery and provision store on Whipple street for 15 years. He attended public schools here and is survived by a sister. Albert C. Bickford aged 78 died yesterday at his sister Mrs Frances Goward’s residence 20 Summer street.
The funeral for Charles W Brook was held at his late residence on Lor ing street at 2 PM Sunday with Rev James Mudge officiating and singing by Arthur Slater Miss W H Huse Christina Gillard and J F Slater. Highland lodge I O O F conducted grave services, J A Weinbeck in charge, burial in Edson cemetery. The funeral for Hannah Flaha ven was Sunday at 2 PM from 63 Adams street with burial in Catholic cemetery under J O F O Donnell.
Supt. G L Fowler stated that only teamsters routinely work overtime and receive extra pay. He noted a Saturday afternoon overtime for a gang to finish unavoidable tasks, with time credited accordingly. No one is paid for work not performed, and overtime is compensated.
The Erie Telephone advances to 72 on gains seen in Boston. It pays 4 percent dividends with talk of a future rise to 6 percent. Supporters compare it to New England Telephone high growth, noting the latter climbed from 50–60 to about 130 in recent years.

Thirty offenders faced Judge Hadley this morning. Cornelius Sullivan received eight months at the state farm, Bartholomew Lynch six months at the workhouse with an appeal, and Thomas J. Allen six months at the state farm. The case of Thomas H. Byrnes for enticing young girls was continued to October 30 with bail set at 800 dollars.
Noel Leferrier was arrested last night for attempting to drive along the railroad tracks at Middlesex street station. A search upon booking revealed two hundred dollars in his pockets.
The October term of the Superior Criminal court opened with Judge Henry Wardwell presiding. Jurors were impaneled with two foremen named James A. Armstrong of Malden and Alvah H. Richardson of Chelmsford. Several defendants faced charges including assault and battery adultery and polygamy with fines and sentences ranging up to 18 months hard labor. The crowded court heard testimonies and guilty verdicts leading to penalties in the house of correction and Lowell jail.
A verdict of guilty was returned. Farrell received six months in the house of correction and Mrs. Kane twelve months in the Lowell jail. Martin J Cosgrove, about 15, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering and larceny from houses. he was linked to a youths gang and, after a prior appearance, was sentenced to two months in jail. Juries were excused until 2 PM.
