Hood farm hosted a large surprise party Friday for John Carr, seven years as coachman for C. S. Hood. About two hundred guests attended the event in the coach house with music, songs, and a banquet. Carr received an American Waltham watch, while flowers honored Mrs. Carr. The gathering continued past midnight with dancing and thanks to Mr. Hood for his support.
A large audience attended the YMCA I rooms in Centralville for a concert and sociable. The program featured songs by J Scanlan and Dominick Roach and selections by the Centralville Banjo club. Afterward whist and dancing were enjoyed. officers in charge were John McCluskey, Thomas Gallagher, William Morrissey and Philip Donohue.
Mrs Tamson R Burnham aged 81 was surprised by a family gathering at 282 High Street. Attending were daughter Mrs Arthur J Conant, daughter Miss Nellie G Burnham, five grandchildren Florence Winthrop Conant Lillian Burnham Willie Conant Chester Conant Louise Conant, with two daughters absent Mrs Howard H Doe of Maplewood and Mrs Julia Reynolds of Fitchburg.
Westford farmer C L Adams was severely injured when his Concord wagon overturned near Chelmsford street and Grand. A barrel of flour spilled. the horse was hurt and Adams suffered deep facial and shoulder injuries. He was helped into a store then taken home once stabilized.
Laurence J. Smith, longtime Lowell salesman and city figure, died at his home at 2.10 pm after illness from lith and brain trouble. The funeral of Gertrude Collins was held Friday at 2 PM from 104 Salem street with burial in the Catholic cemetery under Undertaker O'Donnell. Mabel O Connor’s funeral followed at 3 PM from 11 Adams street and also buried in the Catholic cemetery under F. O'Donnell. Margaret Martin’s service began at her home 83 Wille street with burial in the Catholic cemetery under C H Molloy, Rev Kr Burke officiating at the grave.
In Hadley court J William J Baird was fined $5 for drunkenness while John Connolly and Frank C Tribe were also cited as related figures. William T Ferris, the man who robbed Tribe, received 10 months jail plus five months for assault. William J Baird faced larceny charges with a $15 fine. Thomas N Broderick was jailed six months for assault.
