Henry F. Naphen of South Boston won the Democratic nomination for Congress in the tenth district after a 15 hour deadlock. Bordman Hall was his opponent and the victory came on the 33rd ballot following an all night session at the American House.
In Naugatuck Connecticut on October 20 Mrs Marie Pompance stabbed Mrs Angeline Rose with a table knife during a quarrel. Rose died within moments. Pompance surrendered to authorities.
In Paterson New Jersey on October 20 John Reinhardt aged 55 murdered his wife after she refused funds to fit up a saloon then killed himself. He is reported as dying from his self inflicted wound.
Walter G. Blake of Paris was sentenced to nine years in state prison for a murderous assault on his divorced wife in South Paris Maine. The Oct 20 ruling followed the charges arising from the attempted homicide.
Philip Houlton, Apollo club member, slept on a sofa in Barristers' hall room when a man climbed the transom and stole his overcoat gold watch and vest. Houlton failed to challenge the thief and later saw another man with a bundle leave the building, realizing his lapse in caution too late.
At a late hour last night Dr. McGan reported that Dr. Holbrook’s condition remained steady compared with the past 24 hours. He could not say the patient had reached the most critical stage at that time.
Lowell Vets held second place with a 227 ft 4% in mark in Nashua as nine more rounds were scheduled. Police Court in Hadley dealt with Charles W. Cliff for vagrancy and sent him to Bridgewater State farm. Five drunk cases were heard with three first offenders fined $1, Olof Hanson, a second offender, fined $5. Edward Cox’s drunkenness case was continued with $200 bond.
