Judge Charles S. Lilley of the Superior Civil Court today issued a preliminary injunction restraining the city of Lowell from paying the Mountain Rock entertainment bill contracted to entertain the Lawrence city government and about two to three hundred guests. The petition, filed by Lowell residents led by J G Buttrick and represented by Frank E. Dunbar, names Mayor William F. Courtney Auditor David Chase and City Treasurer Charles F. Coburn, noting the joint orders and resolutions funded by an incidentals appropriation. The court ordered the restraint until further order, citing that the city acted beyond its legal authority in entertaining and in authorizing bills for wines cigars and refreshments for the Mountain Rock Grove event held September 22 in Tyngsborough.

A special Builders Exchange meeting is set for Wednesday October 20 at 7 30 p m to hear William H Sayward secretary of the National Association of Builders who will present his report to the eleventh annual convention held in Detroit Michigan on September 15 1897.
Inspectors Goodwin and Donaldson raided Bent's Court yesterday morning. Under surveillance, they spotted a woman with a flask about to enter. A single arrest for drunkenness was reported from the seizure led by John White, who managed the plate.

Mr. and Mrs. George Davis hosted a Saturday birthday reception for their daughter Miss Alice Davis turning 13. Guests included Miss Bertha Davis Mrs. George Ingalls and Mrs. Harry Carter with readings by Frances Bowker Jennie Whithead a duet by Alice Davis and Frances Bowker and solos by Margaret Stanhope and Alice Davis. Ice cream served by Lilla Field and Daisy Leather.
The Boston Food fair enters its third week as organizers hail record interest with about 60 000 visitors last week and 1000 exhibitors daily. Highlights include a restored figurehead from the Constitution and musical performances by the Royal Hungarian Gypsy band in Exhibition Hall and Reeves American Band in Grand Hall.

Local church notes report Jacob Wallace back at work after a fall from a staging while his daughter’s condition remains unchanged. Officers of the C E for the next six months list Geo Allan as president and Chas S A Patenaude as correspondence secretary. The Patenaude girl, injured by kerosene oil starting a fire, shows improving condition. Sunday school attendance reached 177 and S J Smith led the meeting. Residents anticipate Rev William Merrill preaching Sunday evenings, praising his teaching and illustrations. Choir choir gains new anthem books.
