An AP correspondent relays the tale of Capt. Boardman of Co. G, 26th Regiment, and Private Savage. While returning from Petuan to January, they were attacked by Filipino groups. Boardman’s horse fell, he crawled into underbrush and escaped to his station, while Savage was captured and soon freed by rebels. Savage, part of Boardman’s detail of 12 volunteers, helped raid Angsareb and is recommended for a merit certificate.

Hamburg reports an official bulletin stating the Dowager Empress Frederick suffers neuralgic pains with acute heart weakness but no present danger. A recurrence could pose imminent risk.
Clinton voters debate the Democratic nomination of David I. Walsh for representative from the 17th Worcester district. Opponents claim he was not properly nominated as the Clinton convention Saturday afternoon sealed a nomination that will be contested.
The convention split over seatings for delegates from Southboro Northboro and West Boylston with outsiders backing Walsh while opponents argued Northboro and West Boylston delegates were improperly elected. Walsh led the 1900 fight against the Metropolitan Water board in the House.
Trustees locked the doors and posted guards at St Anne s church to bar Father Berger from services after he challenged the trustees. An attachment of 10 000 on church property follows his breach of contract claim, with police patrolling and preparations for a court fight over the parish’s future.
In the 27th Middlesex district Republican and Democratic conventions nominated candidates for representatives. Republicans George W. Poore and Frederick J. Flemings chaired and selected Dr. William H. Downs and Chester H. Clark. Democrats Michael H. Brady and James R. Sullivan were chosen amid debate. District committees were elected for both parties. Legislative Lowell district nominations largely complete. 26th district Democrats to be decided tonight.
Rev. Charles L. Merriam tendered his resignation after nearly ten years at Highland Congregational Church Lowell Mass effective November 30 1900. The letter cites health and literary activity as reasons and asks for release on that date and permission to administer the Lord's Supper on November 25 1900.
The 26th Massachusetts regiment reunion, largely raised in this city, will be held in Acton next Thursday. Edward F. Jones led the unit as first colonel before becoming New York lieutenant governor, followed by Alpha B. Farr of Lowell. The roster lists numerous officers from Lowell and other towns, noting eleven noncommissioned officers and 32 privates killed in action and six commissioned officers among the war dead.
The record notes commissioned officers and 165 privates died of wounds or disease. There were 2101 names on the regimental rolls. James R. Fulton, sealer of weights and measures, and his father and brother were once members. Charles H. Richardson, who served as second lieutenant, later worked as agent for Appleton mills and is now agent for Lancaster mills in Clinton.
The police court docket this morning largely consists of intoxicated defendants who pleaded guilty. Five men were bailed but failed to appear. one bondsman was ordered to "bring in the body." Sentences include fines from 2 to 10 dollars, jail terms from 15 days to six months, and suspended sentences for six months. A larceny case involving Wazin Crols remains unresolved with a $200 bond.
Catherine McLean, formerly of New Bedford and later Lowell, finished a city farm sentence for drunkenness but was instead committed to an insane asylum in Worcester. The case ties her attempted canal suicide months earlier to growing mental debility from alcohol, with her husband and three children now wards of the state.
Four year old William Harrigan Jr son of William H Harrigan a Harvard Brewing clerk was struck by a team on Pine Street. He died at Lowell General Hospital from severe injuries including bladder rupture. Funeral from 580 School Street at 2 30 Tuesday.

The 1st Middlesex senatorial district Democratic convention in South Framingham nominated Arthur P. Sleeper of Natick for senator. William H. Holbrook of Framingham was elected state committee member by acclamation. A district committee was chosen with one member from each town. Col. Charles Dudley Lewis of Framingham and W. H. Baker of Newton addressed the convention, with Baker urging Democrats to stand by the flag and ignore the Republican dinner pail.
KAU reports a collection at the Jewish synagogue on McIntyre street raised about 25 dollars for the Gallveston sufferers relief fund. Burke Temperance Institute members planned Memorial Sunday observances for the Sunday nearest All Souls Day, November 2.

Shapiro vs Healey, a tort action by junk dealer Joseph Shapiro, seeks 2000 with counts of assault and false imprisonment. testimony covers a June 29 1899 mowing machine sale, alleged theft, attempted settlement, and constable Healey’s involvement with McDonald.
The Young Women's Christian Association opens its new home at 27 Central Street with a Wednesday dedication. The Bowditch rooms are newly furnished by generous friends, inviting all interested in the work to attend.
The new homelike facility offers rooms for temporary rest and quiet study for young women and girls deprived of home comforts. It will be open 5 to 9 pm with dedicatory exercises at 8 pm attended by local clergymen. The president and board invite all association members and interested parties, especially young businesswomen in the city.
A month’s mind requiem for the late Rev Michael O'Brien rector of St Patrick's Church was held at the church at 10 this morning. The celebrant was Rev D J Gleason of Randolph with deacon Rev Fr McHugh sub-deacon Rev Fr Callahan and master of ceremony Rev Fr Sexton. Local priests attended along with Fr Teeling and Fr Ahearn of Lynn Fr McManus of Brookline Fr Brogan of South Boston Fr McManMon of Winchester and Fr Walsh of Ayer and South Natick. The choir sang Cherubini's requiem.
Mrs Ann Craig fell on Merrill Street Sunday afternoon breaking a leg below the knee. She was taken to St John’s hospital for treatment.
