Camden news reports a burglary in which Mrs Vane aged 65 and her daughter aged 40 were shot and killed. The victims son, ill with typhoid fever, contracted exposure to cold and relapsed, with death expected.
Charles Carson, 40, was hit by an inbound express on the Fitchburg road tracks near Union Square station Somerville. He suffered a broken left leg and a fractured skull and was sent to City hospital in serious condition. No one else injured. A Brockton meeting between manufacturers and shoe union reps failed to reach a settlement, prolonging the strike.
A solemn high mass for Very Rev. Louis Soullier O M L, superior-general of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, was held at Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. William D Joyce and several Oblate clergy officiating. Soullier, in his seventy first year, served forty eight years as an Oblate and since 1850 in the priesthood, including a 1894 US and Canada visitation. A Mass at St Joseph's for his repose was noted, with a ceremony involving Fr Fournier and others, and a choir led by Ed Vincelette.
Larry Burns of Cohoes posted his $100 forfeit for the October 26 fight with Martin Flaherty at the Manhattan A. C. in Troy N Y. Burns is in training and will be advised by Sammy Kelly at ringside while Flaherty's forfeit has been up for days.
Gov Wolcott and his staff review the parade in New Bedford during the citys semi centennial celebration. A banquet will be held that evening to honor the governor and guests.
In Nashua New Hampshire on October 12 a jury awarded Edna Martin $100 in damages and her diploma after she was refused a diploma at graduation by the principal of McGaw Institute. The verdict resolves a long running dispute over her eligibility.

Jeremiah T. O Sullivan, Massachusetts free silver advocate and Lawrence journalist, died in Asheville North Carolina after health decline following libel conviction. He rose as a vocal critic of the Boston machine, campaigned for Williams in 1896, and helped push bimetallic policy. He served briefly in court, was jailed for libel, pardoned by the governor, and his body will be brought home to Lawrence.
Bernard D. OConnell, tied to bribery and disbarment cases, stands central in a Superior court suit. Constable Michael J. O Boyle seeks 10 percent of a $10 000 New York Life policy premium paid after being influenced by O Boyle. Testimony and defense follow as juries view cases in Tewksbury.
Reports from Long Valley say settlers and shepherds clashed after warnings to leave the valley. Three men were killed when the settlers attacked the shepherds camp after the latter refused to depart.

Boston oct 11 Henry E Dixey actor filed today in Suffolk insolvency court a voluntary petition in insolvency. The first meeting of his creditors will be held oct 22.
Milwaukee Oct 12 Andrew Carnegie completed a major iron industry consolidation by leasing the Tilden mine. He will run this mine alongside his existing iron properties expanding his control of iron production worldwide.
Spencer Oct 11 Robert E Gibson Jr attempted self harm after Jennie Brooks drowned herself in Whittemore pond Sunday. Henry Blodgett intervened as Gibson moved toward the pond at 1130 AM. Gibson said he had earlier tried to drown himself in East Brookfield pond and to hang himself on a North Brookfield telegraph pole after Miss Brooks died.
The eighth drowning of the season occurred at North Twin lake near Bangor Maine when George Squires and Archie Dave sailed in a small boat. Squires stood to paddle and capsized the craft. Dave reached shore but Squires could not swim and sank before aid arrived. A separate incident reports a trolley car derailment near Cedar Falls Indiana killing Owen Myers and injuring ten of sixteen passengers.
In Massachusetts a belt line car and a Norfolk House car collided at the corner of Washington and Hanover Streets in Peston on Monday evening. The motorman Thrusee sustained serious injuries while passengers were greatly frightened.

Light police court docket in Lowell morning with several defendants given sentences. Olive Taylor, once a prominent street figure, jailed one year in Sherborn for second offense. James Nagle found guilty of drunkenness and threatening his wife. eight months at state farm, threat charge on file. Ann Kelliher and Josie Daniels jailed six months for drunkenness. Antonio Francis fined three dollars for second drunkenness within a year. Peter A. McKenzie fined five dollars plus costs for assaulting an employee. Frank Melli, jailed for drunkenness and larceny of handkerchiefs. interpreter helped, fines three and ten dollars. Dennis F. Kenney given a stern sentence for assault and battery on his wife.
The judge noted the defendant’s guilt over sending letters to another woman but chose probation over a heavy fine to avoid hardship on his wife and children. He warned that future offenses would be met with severe consequences and required the defendant to pay costs and pledge not to write such letters again.
Rev W A Bartlett's Sunday sermon condemning the City Council junket at Mountain Rock grove was praised at the British American association meeting last night. A public indignation meeting was proposed to oppose city bill payments, with taxpayers urged to speak, as the $829 total bill plus $7 for bats and halls was noted.
Justice J J Pieckman held a special naturalization session in a crowded court room and corridor. About sixty men, largely French-speaking and connected to the new French Republican club, prepared to take papers, double the previous yearly total, with more expected at the next session.
