An aged goose in Yorkshire, nearly fifty years old, owned by a local woman, has laid eggs for about four decades. Each year since 1854 until two years ago the bird hatched goslings, a remarkable record noted amid other varied historical anecdotes.
A one story wooden hut on Swett Street in Boston burned early this morning killing Edward Touzalin and his two sons Edward Jr. and James aged 14. The fire, started by unknown causes, overtook sleeping occupants who could not escape. Firefighters faced delays reaching the scene as they had to traverse adjacent wreckage to reach the hut, which was only about ten feet square and completely destroyed.
Rain did not affect the Chelmsford sale of Adams Farm. The farm sold for 2712.50 dollars plus this year’s taxes. James J. Dolan of Lowell bought the property amid a gathering of local business leaders. C. Keses led the auction oversight.
In Pottsville strikers pressed employees at Coxe Bros. & Co. Oneida to return home. A clash with sticks and stones left several injured, two shots fired, and the sheriff summoned to guard the workers. The city’s garbage system teeters on collapse with brick gates broken since Tuesday. If sun returns, the department plans to burn mixed refuse and paper outdoors while the cremator, used mainly for hospital waste, requires 1500 to fix for five years. Swill collections total 800 tons valued near 3000, funding the general treasury. Projections show deficits by year end across multiple budgets, including yard sundries and salaries. Mayor Crowley also circulated a Galveston subscription list with small donations from city officials. Maximilian Schoenbein Swinburn, the bank burglar, left Dannemora prison at 9:30 AM after a three year term for a Middleburg bank robbery. He was immediately rearrested by New Hampshire officers on a charge of escaping from Concord prison 34 years ago, after showing the warrant and asking to see it.
In Roxbury a rough shanty fire killed Edward Touzalin 45 and his two sons Edward 7 and James 14. They had resided there ten years and worked as wood peddlers. The fire origin is unknown and Touzalin's wife died in the same building years earlier.
Three men entered the Townsend National Bank early in the morning and attempted to blow the vault. They wrecked interior rooms but fled when awakened, escaping on a Fitchburg road hand car toward Ayer. No loot or clues found.
Pittsfield reports John H. Duncan the Stockbridge Golf Club professional suffered a severe hand injury when a dynamite cartridge exploded while being moved from a barn. His left hand was mangled with the thumb and first two fingers blown off. he was brought to House of Mercy hospital. His future unknown after the accident at the club where he has worked three years.
Frank Styes, a Pole, faced assault and battery charges from Fitzareth Fells as fourteen witnesses testified. The proceedings showed heated testimony and mixed accounts, with the defense denying violence while witnesses described a belligerent stance. The judge found Styes guilty but deemed the offense not serious, with fines and costs totaling four dollars eighty cents and half paid by the defendant. Additional sentences followed for drunkenness and other offenses as listed in the record.
A long petition was filed in the city clerk's office yesterday requesting the board of aldermen to place on the ballot in the upcoming municipal election the question of pensioning firemen under certain conditions.
Officer Lane arrested Kid McCoy the ex burglar for drunkenness this morning. He was taken to the police station and awaits a bondsman. He has no close friends in the city to furnish security. He has recently worked as a salesman for a patent lock protector. Years ago he gained notoriety with Spike Hen nessy in a play as reformed burglars.
Lowell and Suburban propose a railroad extension from Tewksbury to Woburn via Wilmington linking with the Lynn and Boston to Lowell and Suburban line. At a town hall public hearing, Tewksbury selectmen heard the plan and were urged to grant the transfer to lay tracks to connect with the new road. General Manager P F Sullivan of Massachusetts Electric said the company would waive all rights to the Lowell and Suburban. No opposition was raised as the project would benefit the town.
London reports Lipton plans another series for the America's Cup. The Associated Press confirms the inquiry but says no definite statement is available yet as of Oct 10 in New York.
Peter Mardus brother of slain striker Charles Mardus had the two Clear Spring colliery watchmen arrested for murder in Wilkesbarre Pennsylvania. They were released on bail as the men claimed Charles Mardus attempted to force entry to company stores before being shot.
In Lynn on October 10 an order was introduced at the school committee meeting requiring that any female teacher who marries during the school year and after the annual election shall immediately resign her position.
Lawrence Mass Oct 10 The annual meeting of the Boston and Maine railroad was held with Lucius Tuttle re-elected president by the directors afterward. The session covered routine annual business.

Boise, Oct. 10. The Idaho Soldiers' Home for veterans was burned down last night, causing an estimated loss of 40,000 dollars. About 800 veterans were affected by the blaze and were evacuated to surrounding facilities. the fire's origin and full impact are under investigation.
The McKinley and Roosevelt mounted company of Dracut and Centralville will meet this evening at the Odd Fellows block in Centralville to elect permanent officers and adopt a uniform. Men may join by presenting their name at the meeting. arrangements will provide a horse. Uniforms likely not ready for Friday's rally but will be issued after October 15.
The board of aldermen met in regular session with seven members present under Chairman Taylor. They filed suit notices for Tremont and Suffolk mills and Hamilton and Appleton mills, named jurors for superior and supreme courts, and passed resolutions to widen streets, lay out several avenues, add a Mammoth road sidewalk, grant pole locations to Lowell Electric, transfer 1400 to the commons fund, and approve a 250 claim for Mrs. Jennie Mack. The clerk of committees ordinance was tabled after reconsideration, and the meeting adjourned at 9 05.
John Casey a brakeman for the Boston and Maine railroad was fatally injured Tuesday night when he stepped from a freight car into an oncoming train near Prospect Hill station Somerville. He died en route to the hospital. Casey resided in Concord New Hampshire and left behind a family.
Frank Tessier, while washing windows in Tremont and Suffolk mills this morning, badly cut his left wrist when a window fell on it. He was taken by ambulance to the corporation hospital.
At the Muii club annual meeting held last night at the residence of Co. & Fisher, officers were elected Arthur D. Gilbert as president Ardell Roper as vice president Eva Goulding as secretary and treasurer. The next meeting will be held this evening at Miss Roper's home.
The ladies of the Unitarian society sent a third case of clothing and miscellaneous articles to Galveston today for distribution to the needy, conveying relief to the destitute through the mayor’s office.
