At the Worcester state convention a Plymouth delegate, David W Logan, urged expulsion of Gen John W Corcoran from the Democratic national committee. The last rites for Solomon Bachman of New York were performed at his summer residence 63 High street Newburyport Tuesday afternoon. Elaborate floral tributes accompanied the service led by Dr Gustave Gottheil rabbi of Fifth Avenue synagogue New York and Rev Dr J T Beckley. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.

East Cambridge Oct 5 The Middlesex county Republican convention at Institute hall drew a large crowd. Henry G. Cushing was renominated for sheriff on the first ballot with 276 votes, defeating Parkhurst of Somerville and E. H. Shaw of Chelmsford. James Pierce of Malden presided. Gen. E. R. Champlin nominated Cushing. Fred N. Wier was renominated by acclamation for district attorney.
Wright Smith a Black man who tried to assault Mrs Jas Morrison of Jones Station was taken from jail by a mob at 2 am and shot to death. The lynchers entered the jail by pistol threat after forcing a watchman to surrender.
The Times-Herald reports Miss Elizabeth Stephenson selected to christen the battleship Wisconsin and a party of friends narrowly escaped near Mount Vesuvius. They ventured too close, were lost overnight, and badly burned by lava.
Salem Oct 5 Charles R Sayward counsel for Alfred Williams who is to be hanged Friday for the murder of John Gullo has been notified the stay of proceedings was denied by the supreme court.
San Francisco dispatch reports that Honolulu was policed by 100 mounted men to prevent foraging by soldiers aboard the steamer Senator. General King warned he would order shots at any soldier convicted of foraging, reflecting strict wartime control.

The Massachusetts Sunday School Association opened its annual convention at Union church Worcester with about 400 delegates. Vice President C C Remington presided in the president’s absence. Speakers included Rev L W Adams Rev Dr John B Tuttle and Rev Dr Francis E Clark. The afternoon closed with a Plymouth church children’s service on the development of the church.
In police court this morning Frederic Sullivan of Company M faced drunkenness charges and was released. Thirteen other drunks saw three released, three fined one dollar, two second offenders fined, and four sentenced. John J. Riley received twenty days in Lowell jail. John E. Mitchell and Sarah Toomey were sent to Bridgewater state farm. Rose Howard faced drunkenness charges and was initially ordered four months in jail, later changed to six months at the house of correction. Winslow Stevens bonds set at $300 for assault on Officer Frank Fox to await trial. Frank Archer faced a $1 fine on drunkenness and $8 for disturbing the peace. Dennis J. Mahoney’s assault attempt case continued. Patrick Monahan pleaded guilty to non support after withdrawing his earlier not guilty plea. couple’s dispute settled and Monahan released.

Superior Court in Sherman resumed the Jefferson v Richardson case with the plaintiff cross examining. Two witnesses Mrs Richardson and Mrs Jefferson testified briefly before the case closed. Counsel agreed one hour per side for argument with Mr Wier starting at 10 50.

Dr Charles L Fox practicing physician and bacteriologist to the city board of health shot himself in his Merrimack Street room. The 28 year old, son of Dr Lorenzo S Fox, had long feared consumption after a years hard cough and tuberculosis germs. He died instantly. neighbors and fellow partygoers describe him as gloomy but socially engaged. The event followed a Bedford Springs pleasure trip with friends.
Mr Abel Parker Robertson and Miss Susie M Austin were married Tuesday at 6 PM at the bride's home 90 Mt Vernon Street. Rev Georges F Kenngett officiated with only kinfolk and close friends present. The house featured mountain laurel asters ferns and sweet peas and the D L Page company served a wedding supper.
James Ryder died at home on Chapel street leaving two sons and four daughters. John M Richardson a Centralville resident died this morning in the house he was born at No 1 Hildreth street aged 77 and was unmarried with no close relatives listed.
