London May 27 The Queen departed for Balmoral while the Prince of Wales and Princess and the Duke and Duchess of York traveled to Sandringham. Emperor William will visit Cannes aboard the imperial yacht July 26 to August 5 for the Cannes regatta, hosted by the Prince of Wales.
Good weather marked the opening day on May 27 at Gravesend track New York. Seventeen starters competed in the Brooklyn handicap which was unusually open this year. The event promises a spectacular contest from start to finish.
Coverack May 27 Yesterday's attempt to float the Paris failed due to a leaking engine room tank. The sea is smooth this morning and damage is not increasing.
Attleboro May 26 a clerk William Fontneau shot his wife at her mother's home inflicting life threatening wounds. He fled after the act as police, aided by a posse, searched dense woods near the scene and guarded the farm place. Doctors say brain injuries may be fatal. Fontneau is believed in hiding nearby.
Kate Warren, 23, an actress from Boston, is alleged to have attempted suicide by gas in a furnished room at No 58 West Thirty-fifth Street. Seven jets were on when found unconscious. she was removed to New York Hospital and is expected to recover. Police have not learned the Lambs club contact or her current company.
Fellow members are summoned to the Carders and Pickers Textile Union semiannual meeting. It will be held next Tuesday evening May 30 at 173 Merrimack street, starting precisely at 8 o clock.
Thomas F. Connolly, secretary, urges Textile Union members to unite for better wages and organization. He notes 230 new members since March, claims the union leads local textile groups, and proposes a full board of officers, an executive committee, five collectors, and delegates to the Trade and Labor Council and Textile Council to advance labor’s cause.
The Eastern district passenger department offers pamphlets on summer travel from Boston via the New Haven and Hartford system. Titles include Manual of Summer Resorts Along the South Shore Plymouth as a Summer Resort Nantucket Martha's Vineyard Quaint Cape Cod and Its Summer Delights Narragansett Pier Newport and related sketches. The Samuel Temple corner of Mt. Vernon and Bowers streets sold yesterday afternoon with large attendance and easy terms. Andrew E. Barrett bought the corner estate for $445 and Mrs. Catherine Quirk acquired the Bowers street property for $3500. Earlier, the Warren Chandler property between North Chelmsford and Tyngsboro, on the electric car line, sold in two lots to James H. McDermott for $2640.
Mrs. Elizabeth J. Giffels of Moose Lake Minn reports years of poor health with aches headaches and loss of appetite improved after taking Hood's Sarsaparilla. She notes her husband gained strength and she can work eat and sleep better. Hood's Pills advertised as liver cure accompany the remedy.
Court docket actions included liquor solicitation cases and a lobster law dispute at the Lowell Inn. Judges heard that three short lobsters were found, measurements varied, and defendant Kelley claimed ownership of the inn while inspectors testified. The verdict found two short lobsters and a $10 fine, with an appeal noted.
Inspector McElholm of the electric wires department reports a concluded inquiry into the Lowell jail yard stable fire. He finds the wiring seven to eight years old and not the cause, notes a private telephone line to the stable, and pins ignition to the southwest corner where the eastern side wires and switch are located. He plans another visit for further details and observed pigs alive and well.
Word at brigade headquarters says Colonel Darling contemplates moving the Sixth regiment HQ to Lowell, likely prompting a partial reorganization and four company presence there. Captain A. L. Associate Justice Harry R. Dow presided over an inquest in Lawrence into the death of John F. Daley who was struck and killed by a Lowell bound electric car on the Lowell road Saturday night. Motorman Frank M. Blackstone said he did not see the man until within 15 feet. Daley stood between the tracks as the car was started at full speed. Medical Examiner Howe noted cuts above the left eyebrow and on the head with other abrasions and internal injuries. One witness suggested Daley was drunk.
The Conway Transfer load from Ford Bros. of Lawrence was seized after Inspector Donaldson temporarily arrested the driver until his identity could be proven. The unmarked wagon with no license number was impounded, and the horse and wagon were kept at the police station while the company was notified.
Thomas H. Muldoon filed a civil suit against the city of Lowell to recover 225 dollars claimed for 76 days of labor at 3 dollars daily. The action was entered in police court as a preliminary step with a trial sought for next Wednesday and the city to enter its appearance later.
Miss Bennett new assistant secretary of the YWCA will lead the gospel meeting at the City Farm tomorrow afternoon. Services start at 3 o clock.
A. G. Pollard & Co offer new remnants for furniture coverings and curtains including mill ends in light and dark grounds with small to full yard widths. Prices are 8 cents a yard for most items, with heavy duck draperies at 8 cents a yard and 20 cent pieces on the bagdad drapery. Basement location.
Nashua Evening Press reports a would be 18 year old bride and 20 year old groom were stopped by City Marshal and Officer Flood with the father of the groom. The couple, French Canadians from Lowell, faced a heated confrontation and the father demanded the bans be forbidden. After a tense exchange the party agreed to return to Lowell and plan a future wedding with parental consent. May 30 reflections on Memorial Day and Patriots Day observance follow.

About 16 members will visit Tewksbury on Memorial Day by invitation of Chief Engineer Scott of the State Alms House.
Mrs Matilda Austin widow of C M Austin formerly of Wilton Vermont died suddenly Friday afternoon in this city. She lived with her daughter Mrs C H Barrett 158 Sayles Street for years and leaves two sons Charles A Austin and Marion W Austin. S Warren Morris longtime Lowell resident died yesterday at 238 Pine Street aged 61. He operated a millinery shop on Merrimack Street for 17 years and was born in Upton Massachusetts. A wife survives him.
The funeral services for the late Dr. P. T. Pepin of Berlin New Hampshire will be conducted at the home of his brother Dr. J. W. Pepin 18 Phillips Street this afternoon at 2 o clock Friends are invited to attend

The engagement of Miss Lena Maude Rollins to Mr Ly man Wilson Proctor of Lowell is announced. Miss Gertrude Edmund Ph D principal of the normal training school opens a discussion on Observation as a Factor in Training School Work at the National Education Association meeting in Los Angeles on Friday July 4 at 3 pm. Hans Borjes son of Prof Borjes heads to Germany to complete his musical studies with his father backing. Mrs Borjes and Hans will visit friends in Elizabethport NJ before sailing for Germany June 8. Daniel McCaffrey recently with Frohmans company returns home and may rejoin Frohmans next season. John Coger and his sister Annie attend the ordination of their cousin Rev William J Johnston at St Patrick's Cathedral New York with Most Rev M A Corrigan officiating. Mr and Mrs W B Clark of North New Portland Me and Miss Winona Clark of Wellesley college visit Mr and Mrs W E Savage of South Walker street.
