Albany May 14 police and a hundred sheriffs faced a violent turn as United Traction planned to operate cars. Two hundred non union workers were brought in. a crowd attacked a car injuring the motorman and overturning the vehicle. Police made several arrests as a trolley line was disabled and a brace of clashes followed.
The steamer City of Paducah of the St. Louis & Tennessee River Packet company wrecked at Brunkhart's Landing Illinois Sunday night. First authentic information lists fifteen dead including six whites and nine blacks.
A parliamentary paper lists 634 farm buildings mills cottages and hovels burned in the Orange River Colony and the Transvaal during the six months ending January 1901.
Mrs Catherine Kendall Steele of South Lyndeboro turned 100 on May 12 1801 birth date. Born Amherst New Hampshire she is widow of David Steele prominent Hillsboro Bridge lawyer. She recalls shaking hands with Gen Lafayette and is active in Matthew Thornton chapter D A R. Many relatives attended including ex Gov Edward Kimball and Kimball family members.

Cases include Parker vs Parker for adultery, Griffin vs Griffin for cruelty, Gaynor vs Gaynor for desertion, Lariviere vs Lariviere for desertion, Lancio vs Lancie for adultery, Butterfield vs Butterfield for desertion, Murphy vs Murphy for adultery, White vs White for cruelty, Hibbard vs Hibbard for desertion, Coutu vs Coutu for desertion, Richards vs Richards for desertion, Pender vs Pender for drunkenness and abuse, Fay vs Fay for desertion, Foster vs Foster for intoxication, Hill vs Hill for adultery. Recess taken at 12.45 o'clock.
John D. Rockefeller has accepted an invitation to attend Founder s day exercises marking the decennial celebration in Chicago from June 14 to June 18. Rockefeller will be present at the June 18 event.
Nashua reports a body found in Methuen is believed to be Frank Hansen. A bottle recovered last week by Will C. Hoyt of Merrimac contained whiskey and a paper bearing Hansen’s name and the line I am willing to die. I leave seven children to. The rest is illegible.
San Francisco report on May 14 notes Mrs. McKinley’s condition is somewhat improved. President McKinley decided not to travel to Palo Alto today to meet Stanford University students.
In Hadley police court J Arthur Richard failed to appear and was recorded in default. Benjamin Fletcher jailed two months for drunkenness. John A Gillis appeals from State farm sentence. Martin J Molloy jailed six months for assault and battery with drunkenness charge filed. James McHolland Joseph Smith and Thomas McAdam fined two dollars each. Frank Howard paid six dollar fine. Several old cases placed on file.
New York on May 14 awarded damages of 2500 dollars to Harl Yarmouth and Eric Hope in a libel lawsuit against a New York newspaper.
Frankfort on the Main reports Princess Frederick Charles of Hesse, sister of Emperor William, gave birth to twin sons today. Local authorities confirmed the birth and noted the royal family’s joyous occasion in May.
Dr. A. N. Cronan of Lawrence second assistant surgeon of the Ninth regiment examined 20 new recruits at the armory Monday evening. Some were men whose enlistments had expired, others Spanish War veterans with impaired health. all passed the examination.
Superior Court in Lawton denies motion to set aside the jury verdict in Blanchard v Massachusetts mills. Judge W. H. Bent presided as the jury awarded the plaintiff damages totaling 2500 dollars.
Directors of Fifield Tool Works plan rebuilding after the fire. They met in temporary offices on Marginal street to discuss new construction. Officials itemize losses for insurance adjusters and plan reconstruction once claims are settled. first stockholders and directors session will occur soon.
The selectmen of Tewksbury granted Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill Street Railway a location to avoid a grade crossing at Wamesit after ten weeks of consideration.
After a heated meeting Democrats unanimously cleared six common council members of party disloyalty for voting with Republican Mahoney over Democrat O Connor. The councilmen, initially suspended, were reinstated and exonerated amid sharp exchanges over city hall appointments and ward 2 vacancy notices for June 4.
The Traders Bank offers general banking services with foreign exchange, safety deposit boxes, and semi annual compounding returns. It serves as a depository for the United States and Massachusetts. Banking hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Banking rooms are at Middlesex Street and Post Office Avenue locations.
The Boston Globe reports May 13 from the Presidio San Francisco that the Twenty-Sixth Regiment of volunteers ceased to exist as an organization. Officers and men head home, many via two paymasters, with receipts and discharges. Some remain for hospital care, others plan independent travels toward Boston and Chicago, arriving in waves through the weekend, weathered by farewells and caution against confidence games.
Mayor Wimon plans to urge immediate council action to fund Pawtucket bridge repairs per streets superintendent. After work, bridge will be inspected, reopened with speed restrictions, and jumbo trucks banned. Brady cites four to six weeks to complete repairs and two weeks for timber delivery.

A telegram from Lieut. George E. Garity of the recently disbanded 26th regiment states Captain Greig and 20 Lowell men will be at the State House in Boston on Monday at four o clock. The city council plans a reception and a Lowell ovation that night, with a delegation meeting them in Boston and many volunteers likely to join a march to the State House.
Capt William H Bent of this city slipped and fell near the Tremont street entrance of the Parker House in Boston Monday night. He was unconscious on arrival at Emergency hospital with a severe scalp wound. This morning he was reported better and had left the hospital to resume his activities in the city.
