A Navy Department notice in Washington on May 12 informs that Admiral Dewey’s flagship Olympia will be sent to London for mail, marking the first formal sign of his immediate return. Long has cabled permission for Dewey to come home, relieved of Manila duties, with arrival likely for the July 4 national demonstration and probable visit to New York.

In Lowell police court this morning Henry W. Armstrong and Lillian G. Galloway pleaded guilty to adultery. Each held in $500 for the superior court after Lieut. Brosnan testified. They were arrested in a Merrimack street lodging house by Captain Kew and Brosnan. Galloway, from Boston, had married two months earlier. The case details a romance begun last summer at a beach, a broken engagement, and a private detective tracking their movements before arrest. Mrs. Galloway sobbed in court. her husband sat nearby. Hannah Bagley was found guilty of larceny from the Appleton mill and fined $8. W. A. Hogan appeared for the defense.
The defendant asked for release of Mrs. Bagley without a fine, claiming the theft amounted to 50 cents and noting the defendant must support a husband who lost both legs and five children. The court, however, imposed a small fine, deeming the crime warranted.
Mayor Crowley vetoes the council order seeking a city solicitor opinion on Thomas H Muldoon in the supply department. He argues Muldoon’s suit against the city requires the solicitor to defend the city. The mayor plans to seek a bronze cannon for Memorial hall and notes measles totals and liquor law enforcement rumors. Engineer George O Chamberlin leaves city hall. Harkins will take night pumping duties.
Hon Jeremiah Crowley and F W Qua for P J Riley moved for a new trial after the breach of promise suit concluded. Several exceptions were taken, notably on the admission of evidence about Riley's association with Miss Cottell. Motion to be argued before Judge Bond.
Maud W French versus Elmer A French ended with no contest and a satisfactory alimony and custody agreement. the husband retains custody of the child. Decree nisi issued. Walter F Leighton represented the libelee. Johnson versus Johnson postponed to June term. Judge Hardy presided as the session continued. Edwin M Fadden versus Alice M Fadden granted decree nisi for unfaithfulness. Stone versus Stone also granted decree nisi. parties reside in Cambridge. James Bennett versus Mary E Bennett active at noon. Several equity cases disposed of. session may close today.
In probate court Judge Lawton presides over a list including Thomas Mc Ginn separate support Sarah Gordon removal of administrator Phineas Whiting petition for appointment of a trustee Mary Roche will. Thomas McGinn’s case opened the morning session while Sarah Gordon’s was continued to June and Mary Roche’s matter was announced for a hearing this afternoon.
A still alarm rang from the Doherty brothers' foundry at 4 50 this morning. Fire started inside the wall of the casting shop and had progressed enough to require a line of hose to extinguish it.
The Boston Journal reports a strong week for dry goods with warm weather driving demand for seasonable fabrics. Cotton goods prices rise as mills push production ahead. large print cloth sales at Fall River energize markets, with shipments up from prior year and widespread optimism for fall, though some fabrics remain scarce and prices firm.
The Big 12 club’s assets were sold at auction by Cc. F. Keyes as a large crowd watched. Bids were lively with the pool table fetching the top price, going to John O’Connell of this city for $65. The billiard table sold for $65 to Mr. Brogan of Worcester, the piano for $38 to Frank Cote of Lowell, and the sideboard to Fred Johnson for $38, with the carpet bought by the Veteran Firemen for $40. The entire sale took 1 hour 28 minutes, bringing about $600, with much going to club rooms. Dissolution followed an absence of harmony.
Bidders steadily advanced at J. 2. Conant & Co. sales as Lowell Institution for Savings mortgagees sold the properties. Purchasers appeared pleased with bargains while sellers enjoyed solid prices. Hamblett bought multiple Concord street lots totaling 7460 and Pleasant street parcels brought sums to Gookin Bros and others.
The Simpson will case before master Theodore C. Hurd was adjourned yesterday afternoon to Monday May 22. Many plaintiff witnesses have been examined and much time was spent reading defendant Verrazano Simpson of Winona Minnesota testimony. Defendants objected but the master ruled it admissible. Hearings will resume without interruption until all evidence is in.
A blaze at 73 Bartlett street cottage owned by Mrs Artemas Mead and occupied by Mrs J Cornell and Mrs John W Burtt began in a rear closet. Firefighters battled the flames for over half an hour, rescuing two children and recovering a damaged pocketbook and watches. Insurance covers the loss with damages estimated $300 to $400.
The flower table committee of the Day Nursery gathered at chairman Mrs. W. H. Pepin's home to read final reports. Secretary Mrs. Harry Stocks summarized meetings while treasurer Mrs. Fuller presented receipts and expenditures, presenting a check for 835 dollars.

Miss Bessie Young served as bridemaid in a wedding attended by numerous friends. A reception followed the ceremony with many gifts reported. Mr and Mrs Lederman plan to spend the summer in Syracuse and will reside at 22 Salem Street after September 1.
Several funeral services are reported for residents and relatives in Lowell and nearby towns. Luke Stevens the young Lowell boxer died in Providence and was buried after services at his sister’s home with Rev Fr Mc Hugh presiding. Other burials include John Edward Huntley infant, Charles F. Maguire, Catherine A. Rogers, and multiple attendees from Woods-Sherwood.
Mrs McCoy died April 29 in San Francisco after a prolonged illness. The notice lists friends and mentions Thomas Haworth in a fragile condition at St John’s Hospital today, with several New York names noted in connection to the McCoy family.
Mr Alexander W Gulliland and Miss Elizabeth McCausland united in marriage in Tewksbury on May 10 at 4 30 p m by Rev George F Kenngett of Lowell. In this city May 12 a son was born to Mr and Mrs Walter W Johnson. Mount Calvary chapter Rose Croix held a banquet at the Masonic temple last night.
