Highland Light May 6 The four masted schooner Daniel B Fearing capt J B Clifford from Newport R I went ashore on the outer bar off Wellfleet in a northeast gale about midnight The eight man crew was rescued but the vessel badly grounded and likely to be lost The Fearing was built at Belfast in 1891.
A mob of about 3000 men and boys attacked three Farwell avenue cars near the east switch barn in Milwaukee. The cars, the first to depart, were guarded by patrolmen when bricks and missiles shattered all windows. Police charged the crowd several times and made multiple arrests to disperse the mob.
Police have not located the murderer of 16 year old Elsie Kregle in a woods attack near Washington. Four negroes are held with one witness. three suspects face weak evidence based on night travel and damp clothes amid a vigorous search for crews. Coroner's inquest confirms an attempted assault.
Cleveland May 5 The fourth day of the Methodist general conference saw no business transacted as the session struggled with delegate eligibility. Laymen seek an end to the contest and a motion may close debate by noon tomorrow, with a vote likely tomorrow or Thursday morning.
Doctors E W Chittenden and C N Branch reported on Frank Hughes a young farmer who died suddenly in Anderson. Post mortem revealed an enlarged heart weighing over six pounds and measuring nine by seven inches, with surrounding organs crowded and lung function affected. The finding was described as one of the most striking cases in Madison association records.
George G Haag aged 25 died after ingesting strychnine in San Francisco on May 5 he had said at his boarding house that he was a member of a death by own action club and would be dead before June the remark was treated as a joke but proved true Haag belonged to the Central New Jersey death by own action club

Constantinople May 6 The Persian agitator Sheik Djen Eldin linked to the assassination plot was arrested but released due to lack of evidence.
A severe electrical storm swept central West Virginia with lightning striking a school house. One young woman was killed and a boy fatally injured, while several others suffered burns.
San Francisco dispatch notes the schooner Nor ma, which left Feb 9 for the South Seas, is overdue by six weeks. The Viking, which just arrived, reports the likely loss and a crew of ten.

Dr J A Greene will assume management of The Weirs hotel at The Weirs New Hampshire on May 5 assisted by R H Coldson of the Eagle hotel in Laconia. Greene plans liberal entertainments for his political friends in the area.
In Gettysburg Park Washington on May 5 Representative Bank head of Alabama introduced a bill directing the secretary of war to proceed without delay to procure lands to complete Gettysburg National Park. Six hundred thousand dollars is appropriated for this purpose.
Boston plans an official reception for its Athens games athletes at Faneuil Hall with a banquet at the Vendome. The event marks local pride in the recent Olympic participation and honors the competitors from the city.

A May 5 hearing before U S District Judge Wheeler dealt with the Central Vermont receivership. A petition asked interest on Ogdensburg bonds and an order to compel payment of overdue rent or surrender the road. The court ordered surrender of the road at midnight Thursday, after which the Rutland road will operate its property. The Central Vermont has run the road for 25 years.
Nearly three months after George O. Goodwin of Pawtucketville was believed drowned in the Merrimack river near the upper boulevard, a body with face upturned was seen near the falls. Reported recognition by witnesses reached Mrs. Goodwin who seeks to meet those who identified him.
A heavy stone laden cart drawn by two horses owned by Ross Fox of Dracut ran downhill on Third street near Fremont, tipping at a brick stop and then sliding away. The pair of horses dragged the cart as it moved uncontrollably downhill, turning and pulling the animals in a dangerous escape.
A noisy disturbance drew a crowd as a cart broke and tilted into the gutter in front of Harry E. Shaw’s house. The two horses were thrown, the cart wrecked, but both animals were only bruised and the people escaped serious injury.
After a highly successful season the Philharmonic club held its annual meeting. Under Mr. F. L. Diman the two concerts were of high merit. Despite expense the society ends with a small treasury balance of 17.14. The club owns a $400 piano funded by a $300 loan, $150 of which has been paid, leaving the club financially better off than the ledger shows. Treasurer F. P. Haggett reported receipts of 2121.84 and expenditures of 2104.20. Officer elections were postponed to the last Tuesday in September.
The Highland club billiard tournament ends with Team One including Stowell Abbott Gray Sherman and Whitney taking first prize and each man receiving a silk umbrella. Team Six Dudley Sturtevant Smith Wilcox Anderson takes second with silver cake trays. Team Five with Taft Stencel Thomas Kittridge Corwin placed third receiving a cut glass celery bowl. A. H. Morton wins the individual prize for most games, a fine cut glass carafe.
Flora E Stacy Lodge of Good Templars held a long session as newly elected officers were installed last night by Deputy Mountford of Mt Zion lodge. New officers include Chief Templar John MacPhail Vice Templar Ethel Chadbourne Secretary George H Ruswell Assistant Secretary Mabel Geldert Financial Secretary Herbert Clifford Treasurer George H Capen Captain Jennie Smith Marshal W A Gardner Deputy Marshal Hortense Keith Guard Mrs Carrie Gardner Sentinel N O Blake Remarks followed by Deputy Mountford and Brothers and Sisters Keily of Birene lodge.

He aims to travel to Jackson hall next Monday to contest credentials with Peter H Bonohoe, whose Lowell delegates likely hold the majority. Crowley’s strong reputation could win votes from Lawrence and Woburn. No rival for Jeremiah T O Sullivan of Lawrence is noted.
The military affairs committee will not hold a hearing on the Dracut location for the new city rifle range. Chairman C. Howe stated the site will be established where it has been selected, despite opposition from militia officers. The Westford street alternative is more costly, needs bridges in wet weather, and lacks a public approach.
The will of the late Hon. Francis Jewett is filed in East Cambridge and reportedly contains no public bequests. It mentions a $20,000 bequest to son Frank and leaves the remainder in trust for the widow with remainder to two heirs after her death.

David P. Farmer and Mary A. Hambler celebrated a golden wedding yesterday at 595 Westford Street. Rev C L Merriam remarried them before a crowd. former bridesmaid and best man attended. Highland Congregational Church presented $25 in gold and a silver cake dish. The couple have no children and have lived in Dracut and Pelham before settling 25 years ago at their present home.
May 6. Judge Hadley freed three intoxication cases while fines were handed to Nellie Ivers and John Barrett at 3 dollars each. William McCoy and Martin Malloy received six month and four month terms at state farm and workhouse respectively. Martin Gallagher paid ten for assault on his sister-in-law plus five for drunkenness. James Park fined twenty and order to keep peace, with appeal and bonds set. Jacob Wetherell, age forty, charged with rape of 12 year old Mary Earl, held for grand jury at 1200 bond after witness testimony. Frederick Russell malicious injury case dismissed.
The sewer loan negotiation allows initial work on Gorham street from Towers corner to Charles street. Chairman Dow will announce start dates, with work likely to begin next week. The project may affect five electric rail lines and is the summer priority, employing day and night crews. Only light repairs have occurred this spring while some sewer workers joined the street department. Work on Princeton street extension is nearly finished.
The Young People's Christian Endeavor society of John Street Congregational church staged an old fashioned concert in the vestry last night. Though costumes and powdered hair were antique, the performances by Lloyd Haworth, Arthur M. Burtt, Ada Buckland, Edith Trueworthy, Edna MacBrayne, Mrs. O A Gelineau, and Mrs. John B. Willman were of high quality with Mr F O Blunt directing and A K Whitcomb as master of ceremonies. Suppers were served 6 to 8 by a group led by Mrs. John Rogers and others.

Mrs A K Chadwick escaped serious harm after being thrown from a carriage yesterday. No bones were broken though her face was cut. She is resting comfortably at her home on Andover Street today.
Dennis J. Devine was elected delegate to the national convention in Denver in September by Branch 97 of the National Association of Post Office Clerks. W. J. Garvey was chosen alternate.
