Samuel Dissell aged 28 a travelling salesman in St Louis climbed from a hotel window in an insane fit and fell to the pavement. He suffered a terrible skull fracture.
Gen. Walker commander in chief of the G A R and his wife arrive in St Paul Minnesota after a national tour to rally support for holding the next grand army of the republic convention in the city May 4.
Mrs Kate Stetson widow of John Stetson the millionaire theatrical manager who died April 18, died at her Boston home this morning.
The New Hampshire forestry commission outlines a plan to preserve White Mountain forests by creating public forest reservations. Initial efforts focus on areas in danger of denudation or with strong scenic or economic value, funded by gifts from citizens. Early contributions include 1000 from Henry C. Warren and 500 from George Byron Chandler, with further generosity from Gen. Marshall C. Wentworth, aiming to reserve Pinkham Notch area at about five dollars per acre. On May 4 in Hadley police court 34 drunks were released while others were fined or sentenced. Leon Tillotson received a $4.80 fine for assault on Harry FE Page. Three people guilty of Sunday card playing were fined $5 each and two spectators $2 each. John Toohey was fined $10 for larceny and Joseph Buckley $15 for larceny.
Money deposited in the Savings Department of the Traders National bank at 30 Middlesex street and 11 Post Office avenue before 4 p m Wednesday, June 3, will draw interest at 4 percent per annum from June 1. Interest may be withdrawn or added to the principal on the first days of July and January. George Osgood, about 50, a North Chelmsford resident, was fatally struck by an express train while stepping onto the track after a brief chat with the station master. He had been painting a house and had visited Lowell for oil. The inquest found a fractured skull and the town funded burial. Insurance on property totaled 6,580 but will not cover the loss. Dr Rombough moved his practice to Westford and Queen streets.
