The conference outcome was not disclosed. Also in Manila five natives were hanged at Fort Malate for the murder of Archibald Wilson, superintendent of the water works. Twelve thousand Filipinos swore allegiance to the U. S. at San Vicente in South Iloilo province.
Constantinople March 29 reports the sultan fears anarchist plots and will bar tourists from the Yildiz Kiosk. Bulgarian arrests continue in Monastir district as authorities uncover arms smuggled in spirit barrels.
Cable dispatch from March 29 reports MacArthur praising the Vicksburg for aiding the capture of Aguinaldo at Malacanang in Manila. Remey notes the message and Gen Funston and the navy receive high praise for their roles. The entire army joins in gratitude to the vessel’s crew and officers.
Paris March 29 An interview with Regidorm Jubado the Filipino agent in Europe says a cable from New York reports the captured man is Baldomero Aguinaldo Emilio's cousin and chief of the general staff not President Emilio Aguinaldo.
St. Petersburg March 29. It is probable the Russo-Chinese Manchurian treaty will not be signed before Monday or Tuesday at the earliest. The delay stems from the Chinese government dilatoriness or the natural communication difficulties between Pekin and St. Petersburg.
Albany March 29 The amended charter revision bill for New York City was reported to the Senate today and, by unanimous consent, passed to its third reading.
London March 29. The grand national steeplechase at Liverpool for 2500 sovereigns was won by Mr. Bletsoe’s Grudon.
Thomas J. Murphy, formerly on the school board, becomes a weigh er for the new supply department as the city forms a permanent office. Aldermen plan a charter discussion at a special meeting tonight while street and appropriations committees convene. The city clerk Dowling misplaced the draft city charter after last night’s council meeting. it surfaced this morning when another official returned it.
In Russia the sunflower is cultivated as a staple crop. The seeds are eaten raw or roasted as part of the diet and the oil is used liberally in cooking, nearly equal to olive oil in practice.
Overseers of the Poor rejected a removal, referring the Saunders case to the attorney general after a persuasive defense by D J Donahue. The meeting, marked by caucuses among Democrats, debated civil service rules and outdoor relief appropriations as Saunders’ legality hung on a supreme court decision.
John H. Gallagher, 20, a scale works employee, left for Boston to find his mother whom he lost 11 years ago. He was raised by James Coakley of Elk Lake Penn after being taken from the Boston Home for Destitute Catholic Children. His mother later married a Lowell man named Roche after his father's death. Gallagher served in the Spanish American War, earning a discharge due to eye injury, and arrived in the city on November 6. He recalls a sister Etta who married Patrick Coughlin.
Edward C. Armstrong a Lowell born painter was arraigned in Manchester New Hampshire police court on two larceny counts. He was held for the grand jury in 600 dollars. Victim and fellow painter Albert Provencher said Armstrong stole belongings from his room while he slept.
Middlesex club held a Veterans Night at the American House in Boston with Gen. Miles Admiral Evans and Assistant Secretary Hackett as guests. Lowell men attended. speeches honored the Navy and American expansion, with Evans recounting Santiago and expansion of naval power. Attendees included Se nior officials, lawmakers, and local figures amid patriotic tributes.
Police court session reports multiple cases including Ernest Gauthier sentenced to 15 days for drunkenness and Elizabeth Hall placed on probation with six months jail over her head. Julia Warren, 22, found unconscious from gas at Everett house, death ruled accidental. Leary recounts search and hospital arrival. Warren had worked in Greenfield NH and Lowell boarding houses before.
Patrons are urged to attend the Sunday concert by the Orchestral Society to support the Old Ladies Home. The note says little has been done for the institution recently and the recital offers a fine chance to help.
Byron Truell retired after ten years as chairman of the Fifth district Republican congressional committee. A complimentary banquet was hosted at the Parker House in Boston on Thursday evening by his associates with a large representation present. Frank L. Weaver acted as toastmaster. Invited speakers included Congressman William S. Knox John N. Cate and Capt. E. F. Myer. Truell received a handsome loving cup in appreciation of his long service.
Mr and Mrs William F Winn announce the birth of a son at their Middlesex street home on Wednesday. The Chinese imperial canal is noted as 2100 miles long, longer than any other in the world.
