Athens reports Turkey halted construction at Prevessa the northern entrance to the Gulf of Arta in protest over the Greece situation. In Reading Pennsylvania a large Acme Bicycle Works plant was destroyed by fire causing 75 000 dollars in losses and laying off 500 workers.
Constantinople reports a special imperial decree issued on March 24 summoning 44 reserve battalions from the Second army corps for active service and calling up the entire year’s contingent for service, signaling expanded mobilization.
In Chicago eight inches of snow fell in 24 hours and Galva saw 14 inches. The March storm is the heaviest on record for the month. Snow melted quickly after falling as a 60 mile per hour wind lashed the area.

Miss E L Hogan a teacher at School street school is recovering from grip. Miss E C Isham a Goddard seminary teacher is visiting Barre. Mrs Frank L Weaver and her son go to Richmond Va for six weeks. Rev F E Coburn visiting his parents in the city for a few days. William Young and daughter Eva and Al Richardson leave Thursday for Savannah Washington and nearby cities. Young may bring back new hair dressing ideas. M D Fitzgerald and J H Finn of the Socialist Labor party in the city agitates for increased circulation of The People. Socialists plan a $50 000 fund to start Daily People as party organ.
James Quinn died at his Kinsman street home after a long illness. He taught at the city farm and was long principal of the Edson evening school and a member of A O H Division 8 among other societies. Rodrigue Chaput, 28, died at St John’s hospital after months of illness, formerly a salesman at O Donnell and Gilbride’s and survived by relatives in Montreal.
The committee on cities reported favorably on two police measures for Lowell and New Bedford. Each bill requires voter acceptance. The Lowell proposal would grant the governor power to appoint all members of the police board.
Albert Battelle Balch died in Arlington on March 22. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 30 p m at the Unitarian Church in Medfield Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
