Pueblo rumors indicate ex Senator Edward O Wolcott of Colorado will be appointed secretary of the interior to succeed Hitchcock. The Daily Chieftain will report tomorrow that the president will make the appointment in a few days, with friends in this city already confirming the plan.
A rummage sale at No 27 Br street proceeds all week for St Johns hospital bazaar with Mrs C M Williams supervising. Excellent bargains and high quality articles attract early crowds after doors opened. Another sale on Central street near the Opera house by the Order of the Eastern Star features goods from nearby towns and expects strong interest.
Yesterday afternoon the jury returned verdicts for the plaintiffs in Noble v Lowell and Suburban Railway and Mooney v Fame. Noble awarded 66 dollars, Mooney 1.66 dollars. Blanchard v Massachusetts Mills occupied the remaining time before adjournment.
Lieutenant Governor Bates delivered the principal address to the Lowell Evening High School class of 1901 as diplomas were presented by Supt. A K Whitcomb with the mayor absent. The ceremony in Huntington Hall featured palms and the class motto Onward am I Upward in white lights and red 1901 above the stage. The account notes Bates urged self reliance and struggle for truth as keys to success, citing notable figures and urging graduates to pursue education and public service.
