A 1500 strong mob in San Juan Puerto Rico shouted down Superintendent Armstrong after a trivial school incident. Soldiers dispersed the crowd firing in the air. reports describe abuse of a 10 year old girl, street looting, and police unable to control the mob. soldiers may face court martial.
London reports Gen Kitchener says Boers failed at Lychtenburg with 14 British soldiers killed, 2 officers, 29 wounded. Gen Callier and DeWet are noted, with Boers scattering through the Orange Colony. Gen French captured a Creusot gun and seven total guns. Total Boers deemed hors de combat since eastern operations began as 79.
SENATOR FROM MONTANA Helena Mont March 8 At half past three this morning although the legislative clock testified that it was not midnight Paris Gibson Democrat of Great Falls was elected U S senator for the term expiring March 4 1905 For almost the entire term of its life the Legislature has been voting daily for senator and finally at the last moment there was a break for Gibson He was born in New Hampshire in 1830 and is a graduate of Bowdoin He has built many mills in the west and developed Great Falls.
Washington March 8 Former Senator Carter of Montana who killed the rivers and harbor bill last session has been appointed by the President as U S commissioner at the St Louis exposition with a salary of five thousand dollars He has accepted the post.
Nashua New Hampshire Assignee Thomas T D Luke announced the Nashua Savings Bank will soon pay a ten percent dividend to its depositors, totaling about sixty thousand dollars. The exact payment date has not been decided. The last dividend was ten percent.

Mayor C A R Dimon remains home with a grip after attending a late city hall session. Webster earned its seventh straight win by beating Marlboro 21 to 3 at Webster. Torrent Vets receive invites to Buffalo muster on August 19 and Arlington muster on April 19.
In a Lowell police court session many defendants faced drunkenness charges. Lindstrom admitted indiscretion and was released after a timorous caution. O'Brien claimed innocence amid union ties and a spiteful officer. Dixon sought probation, others faced fines for theft and drunkenness, with sentences ranging from probation to two months in jail.
Lowell council met at the I. C. O. F. building with strong attendance. Three membership applications were read and one candidate initiated. A musical program followed, featuring Clarence E B Corbett on piano, James Walsh on piccolo, John B Marion on guitar, and G Thomas Parkhurst of Chelmsford on cornet. The event ended with cigars and a late whist game.
Colonel Albert Pinder states he is the legal incumbent of the city farm superintendent role and will seek a writ of ouster against Robert V. Saunders after serving notice to the mayor, treasurer, auditor, and board of overseers. A civil service board letter may force a special meeting.
