Lexington Kentucky June 26. Richie a well known trainer and owner of trotting horses was killed yesterday morning on Ashland Avenue by a kick to the head from the pacer Crapshooter he was training. The horse was about to lose a shoe and Richie had stepped from the sulky to remove it when the animal kicked him. He died instantly. Richie owned several horses with Cavin Morgan. He came from South Carolina and leaves a wife and four children.
The Independence was placed in commission today in Boston by Arnold Lawson, identified as the owner’s son. The ceremony marked the launch of the vessel under the new designation and leadership.
