Cailles Surrenders at Santa Cruz With 650 Men
Santa Cruz Laguna P I June 24 Gen Cailles surrendered today with 650 men and rifles entering the town amid native bands. Mass was celebrated by Chaplain Hunt. Cailles presented his sword to Gen Sumner who returned it. All took the oath of allegiance. Frank Meekin, deserter of the 37th Infantry acting lieutenant under Cailles, surrendered and was ironsed.

Yale Class Day Honors With Tragic Foreboding
New Haven June 24 Yale class day opened bright and fair yet many hearts were saddened by Sunday morning tragedy. The class oration was delivered by Richard Henry Evans of Lisle New York and the class poem by Paul Titus Gilbert of Cincinnati. Historical exercises take place on the campus this afternoon.

Lowell Man Tries to Kill Himself in Fitchburg
A man calling himself Thomas Franklin from Lowell was detained by Fitchburg officers after two failed suicide attempts on June 24. He, heavily drinking and suffering delirium tremens, was found near Union Station and halted a circus train. He claimed to have walked from Worcester and spoke several languages, seeming educated and from a respectable family, though he admitted drink dominates him. He attempted suicide first with suspenders, then with a blanket strip, nearly strangling himself before rescue.

South ern railway shop clash in Columbia with rioters
In Columbia South Carolina a mob of strikers attacked the railway shops and a sleeping car containing 20 non union workers. Myers shot at the crowd taking a bullet to the forehead but surviving.
