A blaze at 144 Green Street Cambridge yesterday afternoon killed Rosa Johnson eight and left Armstead Treadwell four dying in hospital. Both children were colored. Insurance on the building and stock listed. In Boston, a reception at the Museum of Fine Arts hosted by the Y M C A Ladies Auxiliary honored Miss Helen Gould and Lieut Hobson with ushers.

Pittsburg, Pa., June 14. Four thieves trailed Mrs. Sadie Fowler after she drew money from a bank yesterday. They followed five hours to her home and beat her, robbed her, and burned the house at two this morning. Neighbors arrived to free her as the robbers escaped.

Fall River June 14 At the Massachusetts State Pharmaceutical association annual session delegates were to be sent to the Buffalo druggists convention to establish a scholarship at the Massachusetts college of pharmacy and to seek a publication of registered pharmacists lists by the state board. A 25 member committee would urge Gov Crane to sign a bill defining State board duties. An effort to remove Freeman H Butler from the board failed.
Portland Maine June 14 A tense hour in the Maine Central strike as patrolmen intervene to prevent clashes between trackmen and replacement workers. Officers withdrew after quelling the disturbance. The situation remains unchanged and a public meeting of the strikers is planned today.
Manila reports Col Bolonas with five officers and 41 rifles surrendered at Lipa Batangas after a battle with insurgents where Lieut Springer was killed. Deserters from the American army are blamed for the higher officer casualty rate. Panay island ravaged by rinderpest drives natives to drag carts.
Fire swept the Mineral Springs hotel in West Baden Indiana this morning starting in a bake shop. No injuries were reported though 220 guests last night lost belongings. Loss estimated at 500000 with 100000 insurance.

An explosion at a cartridge factory near Les Moulineaux outside Paris kills fifteen and injures twenty. Most victims were women, found horribly mutilated. The blast sent shock through the Paris area as responders raced to the scene.
The Boston subway bill was approved by the Senate by viva voce vote and sent to Governor Crane for signature. The measure now moves toward final enactment as Crane reviews the bill.

A simple funeral mass at St Marys Church in Lawrence was held for Margaret Blondin, the Chelmsford tragedy victim. The body lay outside in the hearse as only relatives attended the church and grave at 7 this morning.
