In Cabot Island fogbound Newfoundland a schooner named Czar from Labrador carrying seventy people including fishermen and families was driven ashore. Women and children were landed after a desperate effort. four sailors drowned and six injured. Survivors endured two days without food before rescue and the ship was lost.
The British steamer Border Knight drifted 700 miles after its tailshaft broke, leaving three men, including First Officer Matthis, in a lifeboat for 700 miles. They were found near Sheet Harbor by the Spanish steamer during a long ordeal at sea and towed to Halifax with damage to the vessel.
Magistrate Cornell in Harlem police court set bail at 1500 dollars yesterday for neglect of duty alleging the Eldridge street precinct allowed vice under the previous captain’s command. The case stems from charges by Rev. Mr. Paddock of the Pro Cathedral against Captain Herlihy.

Kiel June 12 Emperor William witnessed the launch of the new battleship Zachringen this afternoon. During shore removal for the launch a crane collapsed causing two deaths and serious injuries to three others, in the day's harbor accident.

In Portland Maine on June 13 the prosecution rested after presenting witnesses in the murder case against Edward Graffam for the January killing of Clifford Mosher.
West Bridgewater on June 13 reports the dedication of the new Bridgewater Historical Society building on land once purchased from Native Americans by Miles Standish and the site of the first 1661 church. The original title signed by Chief Olameguin and Standish remains with the society.
The monsoon has broken starting June 7 and rains are expected across most of India, with the exception of the northern portions of Punjab and Bombay reporting showers. Weather officials expect widespread rainfall in coming days.
West Newton Pennsylvania June 12 another blast rocked Port Royal mines at 4 pm in No 2 shaft. Inspectors expect to decide by tomorrow afternoon whether to resume rescue attempts before flooding halts access to the shaft and the deceased.
Richmond Virginia June 12 The Virginia constitutional convention met today and decided members would take no oath. The move was to avoid trammeling the convention on the suffrage issue with an oath. Some members said they would face expulsion rather than be sworn in.
Montgomery reports that William B. Jenks of Barbour County has become governor following the death of Governor Sanford last night. Jenks is presently in Beaumont, Texas, with the cabinet awaiting his arrival as the constitutional convention adjourns until tomorrow in respect.
Saint Paul June 12 The Globe reports Archbishop Ireland says the claim he was offered and declined a degree from Yale College is unfounded and without basis.
Police Captain John D. Herlihy was formally held for trial in the court of special sessions in New York on June 13. The charges allege neglect of duty as the investigation continues in the case surrounding the city police department.
The Y P S C E of the First Baptist church held its final social of the season in the vestry on Wednesday. The program featured Lillian Gifford in a violin solo, Francis Birtwell in a solo, Burnette Sweatt on mandolin, a mandolin duet by Carl Staples and Burnette Sweatt, and a solo titled Change less by Mr Birtwell. The En deavorers opened with the Y P S C E march.
Boston dispatch reports Wilfred Blondin likely left Boston by the 8 o clock train for Montreal as investigators pursue the Chelmsford murder case. The murdered Mrs Margaret Blondin has been identified, with police still seeking the husband amid circumstantial evidence and evolving leads.
In Tyngsboro and Lowell proceedings, Asad Horain and Temer Horain face grand jury charges for assault on Z. Barbara, an 18 year old married woman. Judge Hadley bound them over in $500 bonds each. the case reveals alleged forceful abuse and threats. Separately, David Kimball faced liquor charges after officers found beer in his cellar. the judge ruled the government failed to prove illegal trafficking and discharged the defendants.
The transfer deed from Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill Street Railway to Lynn and Boston Street Railway was filed Tuesday at the Northern Essex registry of deeds in Lawrence. Revenue stamps total $1408, indicating a $1,403,000 deal. Deed documents originate from Warren & Garfield, Boston.
