Boston June 10 The Boston Elevated line from Sullivan Square to Dudley Street opened at 5 30 this morning facing crowding as 25 000 passengers per terminal strained to move. By 9 am 58 000 riders were processed though many were late to work due to the initial confusion and the need to “step lively.”
Salem June 10. Alex J Pride lighted three gallons of naphtha on clothing and carpet to kill moths then started a fire. An explosion wrecked the house and shattered glass in nearby homes. Pride suffered severe burns and the fire consumed what remained of the dwelling.

A headless, badly decomposed body of a young woman was found in the Oscar Spalding wood lot near Chelmsford Centre, two miles from town.
