Albany June 8 one life was lost and two canal boats sank on the Hudson above Catskill after a high wind. Paris June 8 The sword duel between Max Regis and M Laberdesque continued after a nine teen round adjournment. Regis was seriously wounded in the forearm and the duel halted. Seconds then clashed, potentially sparking another duel.
In Salem yesterday Mrs Mary B Breed was granted a divorce from Sylvester B Breed before Judge Maynard. The case drew public interest due to the couple's social prominence. In a Lowell police court Judge Hadley presided as Angelina Le gare 17 was found guilty of larceny and breaking and entering. Held for the grand jury in 300 dollars. Her mother Flavie Preston was tried for larceny of a dress from Mrs. Doyle of 21 Court Street. Preston claimed the garment was bought years ago. daughter said she found it. Charles J Hill was fined 2 dollars for keeping an unlicensed dog.
James V. McCann, about 30 and unmarried, has been missing since Friday morning from his home at 17 Wentworth Avenue. He had been ill with a wasting disease and told a nurse he would visit the barber shop. Last seen walking on Andover Street toward the city, neighbors searched and police were notified. He is described as fully dressed and mentally capable, though exhaustion from illness may have overcome him. officials fear he wandered off and perished. Doctor Lawler believes he may have collapsed from exhaustion while walking.
