Drunken dispute ends with husband discharged in court
In a local case, Joseph Shanley testified he observed nothing material at the scene while Mrs White drank beer as two White children were present. The defendant claimed he went to retrieve his wife and, after she grabbed a poker, he pushed but did not strike. Judge Hadley ruled the husband acted properly in removing his wife and kids, discharging him. A drunkenness charge was filed. Two Horton children were returned to their mother after she pledged to take them to Canada. Several first offenders paid small fines, and Margaret Cavanaugh received a two month jail sentence.
