Canton July 22 A telegram reports Professor Ellis Ames a well known Canton citizen fell overboard while fishing at Rangeley Lake. He was rescued unconscious after five hours in the water. His brother Walter Ames town clerk rushed to the scene and relatives await further intelligence.
Washington July 22 A Democratic campaign worker says the national committee HQ location hinges on Bryan’s Chicago preference. Prominent campaigners Jones Harris and Gorman favor Washington and the committee felt funds for furnishing could be raised. The group aims to steer Bryan toward national over sectional campaigning.
The Ladies Aid of Centralville M E church held a garden party at Cyrus W. Johnson's home at 120 Hampshire Street. The grounds glowed with lights as members and friends shared lettuce sandwiches lemonade and ice cream. In a corner, several youths sang hymns for an hour. The event was a success.

Pittsfield Manufacturing company will shut down their extensive cotton mills August 1 for four weeks. The move affects workers and operations in Pittsfield New Hampshire. Authorities said the temporary closing aims to reset machinery and schedules at the plant.
Mary Kennedy aged three died after a heavy team owned by Howe brothers ran over her head in front of 78 Andover Street. She was playing in the street at 6 pm when the accident occurred near St. John's Hospital, and she died two hours later.

A 2 am fire at the Union Brass Foundry on Worthen street damaged the upper story and roof, with losses estimated at 4000 to 5000 dollars. The blaze, reportedly sparked in the rear, drew a large crowd and 15 workers were displaced. the building is insured and repairs are planned by Saturday night. Foundry owner is John J. Alec Parker of the Dracut Navy Yard was attacked after being enticed into a doorway behind the Wellman block on Paige street late last night. He left with a bloody face and was taken to police custody for drunkenness. Witnesses say he was lured by a woman and struck by an assailant inside. police found no other suspect and suspect he may have fallen. Parker, a hard worker recently from the west, declined to reveal details. His brother serves at the Navy Yard.
