Newburyport on July 22 reports county commissioners pardoned Joseph Cole Edward Hughes and John Larner all of Amesbury who joined Deputy Sheriff Ayers and his son against burglars Tyler and King. Water of Amesbury serving a liquor sentence and Kelleher of Newburyport will be pardoned this week upon paper completion. Pardon recognizes services rendered to the county during a time of need.
Pittsfield July 22 Berkshire county commissioners pardoned Joseph Ducat a prisoner from the house of correction for bravery and aid during a jailyard assault. Daniel Leary struck overseer James W Fuller with an iron maul. Ducat intervened disarming Leary. Fuller’s condition is serious. Leary, named Walsh, was ruled sane by physicians.
U S Senator W A Clark joins with Kiev capitalists to form a copper company with $9 million capital. Clark contributes $7.2 million. He plans to visit Bemipatinsk with director M Margelin to inspect mines.
News from Unamke Island says two Sutherland brothers and a man named Jackson were likely murdered. They arrived last fall on a schooner that returned this season to a collapsed tent. Vests of both Sutherlands bore knife wounds. One Sutherland carried $1000 upon landing.

Pittsburg July 22 The latest strike update shows Wellsville and McKeesport as focal points with the Dewees Wood company not starting its plant as anticipated. Strikers monitor the site while rumors of new workers circulate. boilermakers and machinists have returned to work in Lackawanna, keeping the overall situation tense.
Reports say 200 to 300 striking workers gathered in McKeesport to stop men from entering town while rumors circulated that imported workers would be brought in. Police were called and dispersed the crowd after men were asked to account for themselves.
In Scranton Pennsylvania on July 22 striking boiler makers machinists and foundry men at the Delaware Lackawanna and Western shops returned to work at the old rate after a company notice. Nine hundred workers from the Allish Chalmers firm remain out pending a broader settlement in other company shops.
San Francisco July 22 1000 drivers will report to work and be discharged as part of a planned strike. Employers must make the final decision others expect all major draying firms to have their trucks stored by night. The teamsters push for a decisive end to negotiations.
St Louis July 22. The first meeting of delegates to form a National Metal Trades council will be held this afternoon at the local Metal Trades council offices. More than 100 metal workers leaders will attend as sessions extend through much of the week.
Shamokin July 22. Firemen on strike refuse to work this morning. President Schultz says none will return until headquarters in Wilkesbarre issue orders. Most collieries opened today with non union firemen.
A Nome to Seattle report from St Michael s notes that six men were found dead by Cape Pomanoff during a blizzard trek last winter. Wrapped in blankets, one lay in a litter. The group, likely prospectors, exhausted supplies and perished from cold and exposure while attempting to reach St Michael s.
Santa Paula, July 22. Mayor Hugh O'Hara was shot and probably fatally wounded by Charles Waxsmith, an employee of Union Oil Well Supply Co. The town is in turmoil with prospects of a lynching. The shooting followed the mayor's effort to arrest four machinists for fighting a Mexican.
The Yorick club has moved from the Mansur block at Central and Market to a three story brick building at 91 Dutton Street corner Moody. The redesign creates a front lobby dining rooms and a large billiard hall with eight sleeping rooms for members families and guests. Architects Stickney and Austin led the project with Co. P. Conant builders and other tradesmen noted.

Peter Kelley faced police court on assault charges against Officer McCloughry with a not guilty plea. The trial, including testimony from Flemings and Maher, continued to tomorrow as Judge Pickman weighed whether Kelley’s presence at the arrest of Winn was proven. Winn himself sought to withdraw his appeal from an eight month sentence for assaulting an officer, while receiving six months for assaulting his mother in law.
A band concert on the South commons Wednesday night July 31 promises to close the Fourth of July firework displays. The display company will send an extra supply to Lowell to augment the on hand stock, ensuring a larger finale for the audience.
