In Bobong Negros on Wednesday Captain Byrne and 70 U S soldiers surprised 450 Babaylones. About 115 were killed, many wounded. American casualties were one dead and one wounded. The fight was close, with bayonets and clubbed guns. Supplies and arms were captured.
A dynamite bomb detonated on the roof of a large railway company's barn at Lake View, Cleveland. A two foot square hole torn in the roof wrecked a car beneath the hole. the blast caused a tremor felt blocks away. No injuries reported. attackers unknown.

The Second Congregational Church of North Chelmsford held a lawn party on church grounds Thursday evening. Japanese lanterns outlined the rear lot and ice cream and cake were served from tented canopies decorated with the Stars and Stripes. A short and engaging program followed.
New York July 20 The Brooklyn strike situation remains largely unchanged with few acts of violence. Thomas J Casey former Nassau line supervisor was arrested for interfering with Homer L Dean inspector of Brooklyn Rapid Transit and released on bail awaiting tomorrow's examination.
The Lowell Machine Shop under Superintendent Hilldreth has expanded from modest beginnings to employ about 1750 workers, with six day operation and late evenings to meet orders. A new foundry addition, 200 by 80 feet, will raise capacity by about 100 percent since 1895, while costs and machinery upgrades promise higher output for the big shop and its role in Lowell’s machine making prominence.
The Eugene Field memorial exercises occurred July 5 at the First Baptist Church in Portland under National Editorial association auspices. Rev Alexander Blackburn led the program with music, poems, and talks by M. S. Stone, Slason Thompson, and others. Mrs Blackburn officiated in the Women's Baptist Home Missionary society meeting in San Francisco, May, and contributed to Cambridge church calendar.
William H. Cuttle, 26, a former city resident, died in Lewiston Missouri from injuries on July 4 after a cannon cracker exploded in his hand. Blood poisoning is suspected. His brother Jonesy, living on Kineman Street, learned of the death and arrangements were made to bring the body home for burial. Cuttle had worked in Lewiston for several years.
In the police court before Judge Fisher, John Kelley was arraigned, found guilty, and placed on probation for six months. Other cases included postponements for Atwood W. Chase and Thomas M. Costello, fines for Burke and Tully, Gifford and Brown, a 17 year old stubborn child placed under probation, and a non support arrangement for James Fife. Four detainees were discharged.
At a special meeting of the Working men's Labor club at Wyman's Exchange Thursday evening officers were elected led by President Alexander Ray and James Stebison as vice president. An executive committee of James Crawford Adam McElroy John Paterson and Edward White was named to back Republican welfare measures. A follow up meeting next Monday will appoint a committee to arrange the Labor Day banquet and secure a hall.
Keiths Theatre announces next week headliners including Henri French the European juggler who will perform feats never seen in Boston many while riding a wheel. Rose Coghlan appears in Between Matinee and Night with the Symphony Orchestra and soloist Miss Waterhouse. Also on bill Reno and Richards Irish comedians Ladell and Francis Dilmore and Leonard acrobats Ralph Bingham the monologuist and many other entertainers plus a biograph program with locally strong motion pictures.
The United States Industrial sub commission held a Lowell hearing in the city hall chamber beginning soon after 10 o clock with three members led by Allison Smyth. Discussion covered textile school aims employment prospects mill ownership makeup wages and ethnic composition of Lowell workers along with industry conditions. The session featured Principal Crosby and others before closing just after 1 PM.
Mr Onslow Greely yard master for the Boston and Maine railroad has been missing from his Nashua home since June 5. He left for Nashua that day but stopped at a hotel and had no money with him. Friends fear accident or self harm though no clear reason exists. He is 45, medium height with dark complexion and moustache. He wore a dark coat and vest and a soft hat.

Miss Maria Cottle, aged 78, died July 21 at 81 Talbot street at the residence of her brother-in-law Aaron Blanchard.
