Mitchell Ind special despatch reports John White resisting arrest at Kinsley Ridge for the attempted murder of Nettie Atkinson. He shot and killed Thomas Field, a member of the arresting party, enraged that Nettie had accepted attention from others. Nettie survived after regaining consciousness. A band of avengers formed seeking White, resulting in Field’s death.
Pittsburg had 12 hits and no errors but could not bunch them. Boston scored 2 runs on 7 hits with 2 errors. Nichols and Hawley pitched well for Boston. Other NL results noted: New York defeated Cleveland. Chicago defeated Philadelphia.
In Springfield the Mets defeated Wilkes Barre 10 to 3. Providence beat Scranton 9 to 6. Oswego triumphed over Albany 9 to 5 with Rochester falling short 5 to 9.

In New Haven on July 16 an unnamed man, age 45, died by self inflicted action. He leaped in front of an approaching switching engine.
Massachusetts report notes Walter L. Hood of Boston station 2 resigns after confessing to taking rugs at City Hall where he worked as night watchman. The piece also records the death of 69 year old war veteran Daniel Calvert on Bradford Avenue Fall River from heart failure.
Thomas Mahon a wool sorter for Lowell Manufacturing drowned while washing mill windows on the canal bank. He fell in as the current swept him 30 feet to a bridge. a mill worker known as Reddy jumped in to help but could not save him. Mahon of 40 Hudson Street left a grieving family.
Luther W Mason age 68 native of Turner Me died in Buckfield Me Monday. World renowned author of a chart system for teaching music in public schools he began as a missionary to music educator and gained national reach. He served 14 years as Boston schools music superintendent and later introduced his method in Germany and Japan. A Boston reception last year honored him. Rev Peter Macdonald of St Andrew Boston preached thrice Sunday then fell ill and died Tuesday.
Miss Juliet Corson longtime writer and lecturer on cookery is seriously ill in New York with a grave disease and no funds. Friends have appealed for aid without her knowledge. Born in Roxbury in 1842 she moved to New York at sixteen and trained for college under Dr. Fred Upham after living with her maternal uncle for 15 years.
Thomas Fallon of Becket was killed on the Boston and Albany tracks near Hinsdale at age 50 and unmarried. John Andrews of Brookline, who drowned during the Orangemen’s picnic at Lake Walden last Saturday, was recovered after five days of searching. Arthur Sewall of Maine, Democratic candidate for vice president, has several relatives in the city who are Republicans and gold men.
