A blaze reported just after 11 this morning damaged a Crosby and Central streets tenement owned by Robert Simpson. The fire burned within the walls of an upen tenement where the Lutz family had recently moved. Investigators believe rats and matches started the fire, with damage not heavy.
A horse owned by Walter F. Leighton broke away from the tether in front of the Glidden building this morning. It darted across car tracks just ahead of a vehicle, narrowly avoiding collision. Augustine H. Oxton, 16, of North Andover, died at Lawrence General Hospital Monday from injuries after a Fourth of July cannon explosion at Haggett's Pond picnic. His hand was badly mutilated and surgeons advised a amputation. He was the son of Conductor Frank B. E. Oxton of the Lowell Lawrence and Haverhill Street Railway.
