If no deal, the general strike ordered for last Monday would proceed affecting about 80,000 workers across major mills.
Kansas City July 13. A mob failed to reach the county jail window to lynch two African American suspects accused of assaulting a white girl. The crowd dispersed at four in the morning after lacking a ladder. the victim identified the two prisoners.
San Francisco July 13 report states the safe expert found the cashier vault time lock at the mint failed to operate for an indefinite period, suggesting the $30,000 robbery could have occurred at any time within a long span.
Reading Pa July 13 Two thousand workers at Reading Iron plant will meet this afternoon to vote on W P Smink concessions. It is believed they will accept and return to work once plants are in order.
London July 13 The Associated Press is officially informed that a dispatch claiming Nicaraguan negotiations are in a definite phase with Ambassador Choate and Lord Pauncefote in conference is without foundation.
Washington July 12 Comptroller Dawes levied an assessment of 100 percent on the capital stock of the Seventh National Bank of New York with 500000 capital. The receiver estimates final depositor recovery at about 80 cents on the dollar and notes Marquand collateral may be undervalued. Dawes says cash advances before failure are being investigated to protect depositors' legal rights.
Chicago July 12 The Working Women's Union of America was formed under the direction of the International Union Labor league. President Mrs J Louchridge of the Women's International Labor league says the group aims to secure eight hour set shifts for household employees and time off for recreation, arguing improved service with better rest for workers.
In Killarney on July 13 the University of Pennsylvania crew defeated Trinity College of Dublin on smooth water with no wind. The race on Lakes of Killarney showcased Penn’s clear lead and strong performance.

Cincinnati July 12 The machinists strike begun May 20 involving five to seven thousand workers is effectively called off. A secret mass meeting reported that no funds could be received from Washington and strikers were advised to return to work.
Reports from Missouri Kansas and Nebraska show record heat 110 degrees in shade with crops and pastures shriveling. Fires from threshing sparks destroy hay and buildings while governors consider drought measures. Economic losses reach hundreds of millions across Kansas and Iowa as corn oats and wheat perish and pastures burn.
The joint legislative committee on revising the public statutes met at the State House with the special commissioners Francis W. Hurd Charles W. Clifford and Charles N. Harris present. They explained the revision aimed to remove redundant clauses and the committee referred an order on commissioners to the subcommittee for chapters on State officers. The panel adjourned until July 25.

Walter L. Parker of First National Bank reported an assault by his step-mother Mrs. William H. Parker on Central street near Swan building Friday afternoon. She allegedly struck him with an umbrella, breaking his glasses and causing brief pain. Parker filed at the police station and she faces assault and battery charges in police court Monday. Mrs Parker is widow of William H Parker who died leaving an estate near $700000.
George A. Blanchet, noted Manchester businessman and son of ex-Councilman George Blanchet, wed Miss Mary F. Shea at St. Anne's Church Manchester New Hampshire. The Notre Dame convent graduate vows were conducted by Fr John J Lyons before about a thousand attendees. Miss Mary J Murray served as bridesmaid with Emile A. involved in the ceremony.

The 30th Massachusetts Regiment Veteran association marked the fortieth anniversary of the unit leaving Camp Chase. About 70 members met at the American House for a business session led by President Theophilus Coupe. Officers chosen for the coming year included Horace F. Davis, Frank Bourne, 8 S. L. Ryan, and J. H. Burnham. They later met Mayor Dimon, traveled to Oaklands Grove for a collation, speeches, and social time with wives and stories.
Mrs S H Danforth of Centralville reports Memorial day celebrations in Shanghai. Monadnock and Helena sailors with American residents decorated graves, then a procession to the cemetery led by the band. Rev Dr Hykes opened the exercises with prayer while Capt Farenholt and other leaders spoke.
Mayor Dimon states he has not signed the bridge order and has not chosen a course of action, citing no rush. He left the office to greet companions of the 30jaa.reg iment at the grove in the Oaklands this afternoon.
Bids opened at city hall for 4000 tons of Dartmouth Cumberland soft coal for the water works department. Four bidders Edward Cawley William BE Livingston Moore and Bennett and BE A Wilson. Livingston lowest bid and winner. Price 4 cents a ton below last year's. Bid range 29 cents per ton. Delivery to pumping station West Sixth Street and Plain Street and Boulevard stations to begin when orders filled.
Two valuable black horses disappeared Thursday night while being moved from the Walter Main circus grounds to the cars. Last seen on Plain Street, they likely wandered toward Tyler Park, where hoof prints were found. Police notified and awaiting information. The animals may have strayed into nearby woods along the road.
Bottlers return to work after a lockout ending with a compromise. Nine hour days and a dollar concession to the scale, plus 80 cents per hour for overtime and holiday work. Contract runs to May 1, 1902.

Police Court in Pickman heard three drunkenness cases this morning. John Gillis and Patrick H Garrigan were fined six dollars each. Edward Cogge was ordered jailed for two weeks for recuperation purposes.
