State Detective Frederick A. Rhoades and Lowell police led separate expeditions to North West Chelmsford woods in pursuit of fugitive Blondin after tips from an ex employer and an informant. Both groups converged at a single hut but found no sign Blondin, only a mistaken rendezvous.
The Walter L. Main circus parade wowed Merrimack Square with lions cages elephants camel and queen performers. Young riders and a vibrant display of plate mirrors bands and a steam calliope drew large crowds. A later free outdoor tumbling and high diving show at the fair grounds completes today’s events.
Thomas H. Connell, a prominent contractor born in Hudson New Hampshire, died at St John’s Hospital Lowell at 3 30 this morning after intestinal obstruction. He leaves a wife two daughters Mrs J B W Coburn and Mrs Waldo Esterbrook a son George two sisters in Nashua and a brother Philip H of Dracut. He lived near Mammoth road electric line terminus and had built major projects including Lowell court house State normal school Cambridge court house and Lynn and Boston road car sheds at Haverhill. He served as a General Court representative in 1876.
Discussion centers on the mayor's decision on the two thirds present and voting rule for the Pawtucket bridge re pairing. Lawyers assert the statute requires two thirds of all members, not the 1894 rule. Charles Simpson, a father of five, was jailed for one month after his wife testified he deserted the family 14 weeks ago leaving nothing to meet basic needs. Neighbors helped the mother and children, oldest eight, youngest nine months yet unborn. Simpson claimed he shipped on a cattle steamer to Liverpool and made no promise to improve. Other defendants, Peter Fury and John F. McKenney, paid fines. charges against James and Hugh McGrogan were dismissed. Fury’s case pending July 12.
The doctors defeated the police 8 to 7 in atherton grounds on Wednesday afternoon for their first win of the season. Key plays came from Murphy and Bonney with two-base hits, while Flanagan and Gray pitched and fired for seven innings yielding two and three strikeouts respectively.

The fire department reports widespread illness among its horses with four top animals sent to pasture. Chief Hosmer hires green replacements from Charles H Hanson’s stable, two of whom join the protective department, while no clear cause for the sickness is found as the new horses begin their service.
The Fletcher Family Union descendants of Robert Fletcher who settled in Concord in 1630 will hold its next meeting on September 4 at Tremont Temple. Ralph F. Brazer and Isaac Fletcher of this city are on the executer committee.
Lawyer Anderson, counsel for Mrs. E. Johnson, has taken an appeal from zews ton's decision granting separate maintenance. The appeal will be heard in the superior court at the fall term.
