Boston July 8 The town of Arlington sues Roland Swan now jailed in Cambridge awaiting trial at the next term of the superior court. Preliminary papers filed note two counts seeking 5400 for money received for plaintiff use and for moneys unlawfully taken on March 19 1901 and April 27 1901. Action described as contract or tort with attorney William H. H. Tuttle.
In Nantucket the battleships Kearsarge Massachusetts Alabama with tenders Verben a Mayflower and tug Pocomac anchor near Great Point for two weeks of manoeuvres. About 500 visitors came ashore as ships landed sailors began tents. Public invited aboard Saturday. ships weigh anchor at dawn for Boston coal and return. Date of the sham battle not set.
Nantucket July 9 movements of the North Atlantic squadron are underway with 2000 men landed at Coatus Island. A base of supplies fortifications and harbor defenses are planned including mining efforts. Secrecy surrounds preparations as authorities anticipate a severe engagement.

In Denver on July 9 Chris Jensen, described as demented, assaulted and severely injured 14 year old Jessie Kinport in a house, later found unconscious in a nearby vacant lot. Earlier he stabbed and killed another woman, claiming self defense after she brushed against him, and attempted to stab a police officer when taken into custody.
Reading Pa July 9 not a single Philadelphia and Reading striking employee returned to work this morning. They have rejected Acting President Welsh latest proposition. Reading shops show the same situation with sixty five engines awaiting repairs by boiler makers and blacksmiths.

Miss Lizzie Dunnels of 2 Wood Street Charlestown died after a July Chelsea accident on a Lynn and Boston car. Her jacket slipped from her lap as the car neared the Chelsea north draw. She leaped from the moving car, struck her head, and died at Frost Hospital at 7 pm. No blame assigned to Conductor D J Hickey or Motorman John E Thombs.
Five year old Eddie Smith drowned in the Passaic River while attempting to save his eight year old brother Harry who fell from the Newark city dock at River street. Both boys sank locked in each other's arms as rivermen failed to reach them in time.
