Syracuse July 8 Prof Smith was attempting a slide for life at Watertown on July 4 when the apparatus broke. Henry Phillips fell 60 feet to the ground and died yesterday. Officials report the rope holding Phillips was cut and are investigating.
The Trades and Labor council held a long afternoon meeting at the Building Laborers hall with a large attendance. Delegates elected officers for six months and began committee selections while planning Labor Day events and discussing aid for Boston machinists and Vermont unionists. The session ran from 2:30 to 7 and concluded with praise for the anniversary committee and plans for a celebratory program.
