Havre France January 23 The British steamer Oriflamme which grounded January 20 and then caught fire remains ablaze and poses a serious navigation hazard. The vessel carries about 5000 tons of petroleum and explosions are feared.
Denver reports a registered mail sack from San Francisco missing its contents. A packe containing 3600 dollars is believed stolen between San Francisco and Cheyenne. Authorities pursue leads as the investigation unfolds.
Birmingham Alabama January 23 The total damage claimed by the Louisville and Nashville road from the Canada river wrecks stands at 365000 dollars reflecting railway losses and claims filed as part of the incident case.

Charles S Fifield 53 died at Wa verly on Thursday remembered as a noted boot and shoe machinery inventor. He partnered in tool making with C H Morse at 53 High Street and resided in Revere as a major real estate owner. He leaves a wife and was taken to Belmont for burial.
Mrs Danville Cole, about 70, was found dead in her bed at 106 Mt Vernon street this morning. The door had been locked, a ladder needed to enter the room, and she had been dead several hours likely from heart disease. Her husband died last December.
The funeral of Josiah Butler was held today from his Stevens Street home at 1 30 PM. George W. Bicknell D D of Cambridge and Rev C E Fisher conducted the services, with George L Hooper directing arrangements. Bearers were J W Bennett Edward D Holden Charles Wheeler and Daniel A Swan. Interment followed in Lowell cemetery with Undertaker Currayer in charge.

Deputy Sheriff George W. White of Weymouth, 78, is the oldest deputy in active duty in Massachusetts after 41 years in the role. Appointed March 10, 1855 by Sheriff Thomas Adams, he has attended every Dedham court session since. Also, a body found in Bondsville is identified as Joseph Fountain of Three Rivers, missing since November. John L. Sullivan, recovering from tonsillitis, left Manhattan House for home.

This morning at 1 45 o clock a fire gutted the Finnick property on Keene street, a combined barn and bakery. Firefighters from box 43 arrived too late to save the structure and one of two horses perished. Hydrants on Walnut street hampered efforts, but surrounding buildings were saved. Total loss not exceeding $200. Syrians in the rear hurried across the street with belongings as horses were moved from other barns.
A 12 year old, Thomas Kirk of 2 Blanchard place East Merrimack street, saved two younger boys James Cawley 11 and another lad from falling through ice on the Concord river at about 5 pm. He dived in twice to rescue them and later asked for a leather medal. The captain promised due newspaper credit rather than a medal.
A brother of the house owner says the family owed 67 dollars in rent. They paid September and five dollars for October but nothing since. The occupants were the parents and a child, with five dogs. The owner says removal was necessary and doors were restored after tenants were dispossessed.

Lemerise the lawyer married Miss Jeanne Devine in St Johnsbury Vermont, and now in Woonsocket Rhode Island on their wedding trip.
