Taunton January 21 Mrs Michael Hasmore age 35 suffered severe burns while polishing the stove with benzine last night. Her clothes ignited and she was burned from the waist up and on her hands. She is in critical condition. She has four children.
New York January 21 reports the steamer Alvens ran ashore following a collision with the British Queen. The vessel is now sunk deep with deck houses washed away and bridge, cargo, and decks gone. It is expected to go to pieces soon.
San Francisco dispatch notes Judge Mc Kenna returned from Caraon and that he will probably receive a cabinet portfolio. The possibility was discussed in relation to him and is now admitted by officials.

Jan 21 Freeland M Chinman a 63 year old man pleaded guilty to a serious charge involving two girls aged 16 and was held under $1000 bonds for the grand jury. Edward Doyle Frank Riley and Luke Donnelly were sentenced to the Massachusetts reformatory after arrest for stealing 125 pounds of cable wire from the telephone company and appealed to be held for the grand jury. Abby A Collins a stubborn child was placed on probation. One first offender was released after a drunken case.
Josiah Butler aged 60, longtime Pelham Street resident and city business figure, died after a lengthy illness. He leaves a son Josiah and two daughters Maude E. Butler and Mrs. W. F. Goodell. He belonged to Pilgrim Commandery and Kilwinning Blue Lodge, the Board of Trade, Martin Luthers and Highland club. Funeral at 139 Stevens Street Saturday at 1.20 PM, burial private.

The Boston steamer Shawmut under Captain Fuller and the four masted barge Atlas returned safely from Galveston with 8150 bales of cotton the largest cargo ever brought to Boston. The voyage covered 2250 miles at about 180 miles a day and faced a heavy southeasterly gale on January 15. A tragedy occurred when Atlas cook Charles Thurston, ill with grip, jumped overboard near Jupiter Florida and drowned after a boat was sent to assist.

Freeland M. Chapin 63, of John Street No 41, was arrested yesterday by Inspectors Allen and Laflamme on charges of raping two girls aged 16. He is locked up at the police station and will be arraigned today.

City Solicitor Qua and John J Ho gan appeared before Judge Barker of the Supreme court in Boston today and filed the information of Richard Bray against Superintendent Varnum. The city solicitor answered and both sides filed agreement of facts. No witnesses were present and the case was not discussed. It will go before the full bench for consideration.

Alderman Lucius A Derby and Miss Nettie Bryant were united in marriage at 148 First Street in the presence of relatives. Rev R A Greene officiated at Grace Universalist Church. The bride’s sister in law attended as bridesmaid, the groom’s brother served as best man, and a wedding breakfast followed before the couple departed for a honeymoon. They will reside on First Street.
In East Cambridge the insolvency court allowed several new claims in the F G Mitchell & Co case, lifting total claims to about 140000. Creditors have not accepted the offered 50 percent on the dollar, with two weeks remaining to decide.
The funeral for Alfred B. George took place at 2.30 yesterday from 31 Webster Street with Rev. A. E. Wilson officiating. A quartet including Ida Scarlett Lena A Reid Dr A D Allard and Herbert Baker sang while flowers came from St Pauls Sunday school and Flora E Stacy Lodge of Good Templars. Bearers included Sands Rogers Dr Allard George Scarfott John A Wilmont and F Snow. Fred S Osterhout oversaw arrangements and the body was taken to Edson cemetery. Annie Connors death prompted interment in Manchester N H via Undertaker O Donnell. John Brogan's funeral followed at St Patrick s Church with Holy Name Society and A O H delegations and burial in Catholic cemetery.
