Boston—Prof Carl B Christenson a 36 year old Swede of South Boston was arrested for stealing books from the Boston Public Library. He pleaded guilty in municipal court and received a three month sentence in Deer Island house of correction. He admitted taking books and selling them, and offered no defense.
In Washington last Friday the House passed a bill granting Ira H. Sweatt a pension of $12 per month. Congressman Mills had opposed, labeling Sweatt a deserter, a claim Knox refuted noting Sweatt's service, disability from malaria and paralysis, and an honorable discharge after a long illness. The case featured prior pension denials and an investigation by the pension office. The bill then passed.
Shortly after two this morning the town hall on Broadway in Revere caught fire. Flames spread rapidly engulfing the two story structure that housed town offices and the public library. All town records and treasurer and collector books are believed lost. The cause could not be determined.
Hinsdale Smith Jr paymaster for Hinsdale Smith & Co wholesale tobaccos was attacked on a dark bridge between two warehouses in Springfield. He carried 500 in pay envelopes. assailants escaped with 144 after he was struck and fled toward the office.

A 13 year old named Perkins, son of deaf mute parents, fell from an apple tree near Greene station in Coventry Rhode Island on Sunday and died of a broken neck. Herman N Coffinberry, former president of the Bank of Garrett Indiana and treasurer of De Kalb county, died Monday as the sheriff came to take him into custody.

The final hearing in the case against Constable Gately continued in City Hall across two sessions. Witnesses Coburn Donovan and Gately defended his conduct on tax warrants and loan activities, detailing payments and returns, while cross examinations probed discrepancies and authority to collect. The hearing adjourned after 12 o clock with the committee’s decision reserved.
Stockholders of the Old Lowell National Bank elected nine directors including Phineas Whiting George F. Penniman Edward M. Tucke Joseph L. Chalifoux Artemas B. Woodworth Wilson W. Carey Percy Parker Peter H. Donohoe and Charles M. Williams The president will be chosen by the directors on Thursday Prescott National Bank also elected C H Coburn as president for the ensuing year at their Monday meeting.

In a police court session Thomas Kennedy received four months for drunkenness after admitting the charge and previous jail time. Michael Sullivan, an older offender, was sent to the work house for four months. Both Kennedy and Sullivan appealed to the Superior court, while Augustus Goodwin was jailed eight months for assault and drunkenness.
