D J Dionne, about 30, drowned after breaking through ice in Livermore Falls, Maine, leaving a family. A man killed by self inflicted train impact occurred Monday night at Wilsonville. Frank Sadnan, a Pole of North Grosvenordale, was identified among railroad deaths. Joshua E. Brinton of Greene Manufacturing was seriously injured crossing gates at Central Falls. East Greenwich's railroad victim proved to be Ames Hobart, Providence born, Wickford resident and Mt. Vernon lodge chaplain, about 65.
In a long Common Council session both parties caucused separately after eight. Ballots for superintendent of streets favored Cheney 15 to 10 with 27 cast, Cheney reelected. Other races for lands and buildings failed to produce a choice as Democrats abstained. Adjournment followed after 9.15.
In Wapello Iowa on January 13 the Roentgen ray was admitted as evidence for the first time in Towa in the trial of Dr Everholt charged with malpractice for setting a broken limb. The X ray photos revealed the misjointed fracture with several specialists in attendance.
Boston date January 13 Captain John E Taylor of the steamship Howard shot himself in the head at midnight. Officials say misery over last week’s collision with the tug Job Wilson and the drowning of two sailors drove the act. The Howard, of Baltimore, departed for its trip yesterday.
A Haverhill stableman, Quincy W. Perley, lies dangerously ill at home with a baffling disease diagnosed as glanders after examinations by physicians. Separately, Michael Heffernan, 35 and married, jumped into Leominster's Pa ton pond Tuesday afternoon and was rescued by Thomas McKenna.
South Ashburnham January 13 The Cheshire express collided with a freight near town. Three persons were injured as the passenger locomotive suffered heavy damage and the rear of the freight was damaged as well.
The breach of promise suit by Miss Mabel Duncan of the Geisha company against Captain Crabbe of the Royal Irish regiment was postponed by agreement and is said to have been settled out of court.
In Pottsville, four workers died when a rope attaching the mine cage broke at the Wadesville colliery this morning. The mine structure was also damaged by the incident.
Seattle Washington January 13 The Seattle savings bank did not open this morning because of heavy withdrawals by new county officials yesterday. The bank’s affairs are in good shape and it will pay all obligations.
Chicago reports heavy snowstorms prevailing west of the city with ongoing snowfall. Trains are blocked and traffic halted, with damage expected to be heavy and widespread.
In a Yellow Bayou colored Baptist church a revival turned tragic when Deacon Austin Williams struck Rev. Henry Walker over a plate offering. Walker responded with a cane, and then Walker, using a razor, fatally slashed Williams's throat. One man died and about a dozen others were injured.
Roswell C. Nichols of Chicago won a $7000 verdict in the U S Circuit Court before Judge Aldrich in the personal injury suit against Fitchburg Railroad. Injuries in May 1890 at Baldwinsville occurred when contact with a projection over track caused the loss of his right arm. The railroad contends Nichols was negligent and the case proceeds to the Court of Appeals.
Ten police court cases heard by Judge Hadley on January 13 saw seven drunkenness charges. Charles McGingan Mary Gibbons and Joseph Fox were fined one dollar each while Michael Rock and Sarah Connelly faced higher limits. Martin Manning received ten dollars and Annie Stevens four months workhouse. John Mahan Edward Burke linked to breaking and entering with larceny were held in one hundred dollars each. Thomas Dunfey charged with embezzlement was held for January 16.

President Penn will announce the committees on the part of the Common Council in about two weeks. It is not known what course the Mayor will take in regard to the committees.
Alderman Peirce set a precedent by introducing street resolutions without preliminary petitions. He argues hearings can be held directly on the resolutions, saying petitions are unnecessary. Abutters may react as they are offered more than they want.
Tonight the mock trial features judge His Honor Mayor Courtney and defendant W H S Hayes in the rooster case with Abel Wheeler as the plaintiff. A Lowell gentleman returning from a two week visit to Vermont reports that the absence of snow is stopping lumber operations. Lumbermen cannot move logs or access the woods, and he notes they are praying for snow to resume activity.
A party of four young men skated from Indian Orchard to Lawrence and back forenoon without stopping, taking one hour and ten minutes. They plan a Pawtucket dam to Nashua round trip this afternoon if feasible. Curious mention asks if the Rooster fed in Dan Varnum's Park.

Richard Bray demanded the lands and buildings department keys from Supt. Varnum this morning. Varnum refused and sought a conference with the city solicitor. Bray stayed in the office until lunchtime as rumors swirl about control of the department. The city solicitor’s office is also heavily sought amid political pressure.
The Lowell Philatelic association held its annual meeting last night electing a new slate for the coming year with M. C. Wright as president and C. E. Edson as secretary and treasurer. E T Goward named exchange manager and a governing board including C A Gale S Burbank and T E Adams. B L Drew of Boston displayed stamps from his 13th sale.
At a Tuesday meeting the Board of Police granted licenses to auctioneers and common victuallers and promoted Officer Thomas A. Molony from supernumerary to regular force. Byron W. Johnson was allowed to withdraw his petition for an express wagon license.
J V Keyes & Co advertises new Priestly black goods at about half price. Counters set Monday feature bargains with prices held for all pieces. Customer urged to avoid waste and buy now as money is scarce.
A. G. Pollard & Co advertises thick heavy undershirts at 20 cents each not cheap flimsy items. Sizes 34 to 42 for shirts and 22 to 40 for drawers offered as best value for the low price, inviting customers to compare with higher quality goods.
The Middlesex Women's club will not provide tickets for Mrs. Livermore's lecture on Saturday January 23 as she does not lecture under the Middlesex club. Fire destroys lumber sheds owned by W F Stevens and lumber owned by Daniel Gage in Dracut with an estimated loss up to $2000 and no insurance. Civil service exam planned for Friday January 15 at 9 30 am with applications due by 10 am to secretary C H Conant. 22 applications currently on file. Bicycle agents arrive in town promising $75 wheels, comparing a current model to a $127 50 purchase four years ago. Thomas Moore, held in Boston for counterfeiting and claiming Lowell as home, is not known by Lowell police. a George Moore arrested in St Albans Vermont for breaking and entering does not match the counterfeit suspect.

Personal note from Putnam & Son reports Conductor Donovan of the Boston and Maine will depart next week for a weeklong vacation in North Carolina. Also noted, M. L. Hamblet was yesterday appointed by Judge McIntire as a trustee for the $1000 bequeathed to the First Congregational church by the late Hannah Reed.
Obituary notices report the death of Martin W. McIntire of Middlesex Village aged 9 years 7 months in North Chelmsford. Dr John J Savage aged about 25 died at his home 57 Jefferson street after two days illness and was a Holy Cross and Harvard Medical School graduate. Miss Kate E Molloy died at 253 High street from heart disease leaving a mother and four sisters and one brother. Funeral services set for 9 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. George Hamblett, Dracut farmer, died at home aged 40.
The funeral for John Proulx who died after a fall from a stag ing was held at St. Joseph's church with Rev Fr. Frigon officiating and interment in East Chelmsford's French cemetery under Archambeault. Bridget Fleming's funeral at St. Michael's was led by Rev William O'Brien with bearers Michael McDermott Dominick McCarthy Edward Mc Mann Patrick O'Brien Francis Callahan and John Kennedy and burial at the Catholic cemetery with Undertaker Molloy directing arrangements.
A struggling team of horses pulling an unloaded wagon delayed traffic on Merrimack street near Palmer this forenoon. The driver used the lash freely, but after a while the exhausted beasts moved the fertilizer load. No name appeared on the wagon, which likely belonged to a local farmer.
Newton of Oakland California and Miss Annie R Beck of Lowell Massachusetts were joined in marriage January 29 1896 by Rev R F Coyle in this city.
George Hamblett died in Dracut on January 13 at age 84. He was a longtime resident with ties to the local community. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
