Out of work and dispossessed, Charles Arnold aged 23 shot and killed his wife Florence aged 20, then killed himself in New York. The couple had been homeless for ten days and the shooting occurred at the home of Cornelius Barrett, who had provided them shelter.
New York, Feb 7. Charles Yost was stabbed to death by Fred Hoffman, a Third avenue grocer, after a quarrel over 35 cents Hoffman claimed Mrs Yost owed. Hoffman used a cheese knife and Yost died in his wife’s arms after reaching home. Hoffman was arrested.
The Traders National Bank presents foreign exchange services and savings options with 4 percent interest compounded semi annually. It advertises safety deposit boxes, exclusive banking rooms, and standard hours 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. daily plus Saturday 8 A.M. to 1 P.M. The bank lists rooms at 30 to 46 Middlesex Street and 11 to 24 Post Office Avenue.
Feb 8 reports say a massive blaze that killed over 500 may have begun as an employee’s revenge after a discharge. Hospitals are full, and victims run laden with flames, described as blazing like torches as the fire swept through the area at night. In New York, Union Pacific plans to finance its Southern Pacific stock purchase with 40 million dollars in 4 percent gold bonds convertible to common stock by May 1906, underwritten by Kuhn Loeb & Co. Bonds offered to stockholders at par.
At city hall the fourth public hearing on the charter revision covered schools, police, firemen and finance with 20 attendees. Superintendent Whitcomb defended the school department’s finances and opposed mayoral appointment of the superintendent. Citizens debated janitor appointments, civil service and school board control, while police board members urged merit based promotions and possible commissions for licenses and public works.

The body of Thomas A. Field, a victim of the Newhall powder mill explosion, was found today buried in snow across the river from the mill site. His legs, arms and head were missing.
Lord Kitchener reports a British column destroyed Boer supplies at Petrusburg and captured 8500 horses and cattle. De Wet is said to be north of Smithfield moving east.
A Vienna dispatch reports Former King Milan of Servia is ill with pneumonia and in a dangerous condition. The report comes from London dated February 8.
Two of three members must belong to the dominant parties. Rev Mr Mathews says the rule is generally understood to be limited. The committee adjourned the hearing at 10 30 o clock. The charter will be carefully revised at a future meeting. Functions of departments to be considered next Monday night.
Snow storms freeze roads between Lowell and East Chelmsford with drifts up to five feet. An Undertaker could not reach St Joseph's Cemetery for a Thursday funeral as the drift blocked the main road. A horse was badly cut and bled during the attempt. The sleigh was later freed with four horses. Workers had mined the drift for days only to have wind redeposit snow overnight.
The road from Boston to Lexington remains closed below Billerica Centre with tracks not expected to be ready for traffic before Sunday. Chelmsford street line is reported in working order.
The P A C voted to withdraw from the Central Massachusetts Basketball league after the suspension of John Dion for leaving the Burke team to play for P A C against the Burke managers' wishes. League directors may meet to discuss the move, with the Burke versus P A C game next Thursday likely canceled unless managers settle receipts.
A police court session led by Judge Hadley saw four inebriates, including Alice Murtagh who plead guilty to a repeat charge and had six months jail with suspended sentence during probation. She suffered a hemorrhage en route to jail and received medical attention. Dennis O Connell and Joseph Paris paid two dollar fines. No juvenile cases appeared despite it being juvenile day.
In a YMCA club house billiards match last Wednesday L Association Catholique defeated St Joseph Society of Central Falls Rhode Island by 200 to 91. Represented by Joseph A Legare and Albert Blazon for the hosts and Messrs Bigoness and Dion for the visitors. The visitors left Lowell Thursday for Central Falls with thanks for the hospitality shown by Lowell friends.
At Tuesday night’s meeting the joint special committee was named to probe garbage disposal. Mayor Dimon has appointed the majority of the board, with Aldermen Miskella Mullin, Councilmen Clark as chairman, Brousseau and Le Gare comprising the panel.

John J. Bacchus of 88 Middlesex street faced district court on highway robbery charges involving Miss Hannah Boyce at Melrose hospital. Judge John W. Pettengill presided, Bacchus found probably guilty and held to appear in Cambridge Superior Court on February 14 in default of bail.
Rochester Feb 8 James Birth 40 slipped while moving near the Niagara Falls hydraulic power plant edge and fell 175 feet to his death. He was found dead after the plunge.
