Newport R I Aug 30 The automobile races began at Aquidneck Park this afternoon and will continue into the evening. There are many entries with 15 events scheduled. The track is a half mile round and all races except the last are five miles. The final event is ten miles and serves as the championship for class winners.
Rochester N Y Aug 30 The entire four track system of the New York Central was blocked for several hours this morning by a freight derailment involving four cars.
Washington Aug 30 The President appointed William H Hunt of Montana as Governor of Porto Rico.
Washington Aug 30 The navy department received a cablegram from Capt Craig of the Albany reporting that Frank Schilz and Timothy McCarthy slipped overboard while sleeping on the poop deck during an exceptionally heavy roll last Sunday night. The cablegram said he remained near the locality.
Three sailors disappeared Sunday night and were not seen again as daylight broke Monday. On Monday George Perkins went overboard and drowned. Perkins body was recovered and to be buried ashore at Aden. Navy records list Frank Schilz landsman of Chicago Timothy McCarthy coal passer of New York City and George Perkins landsman of New York City.

In Lynn on Aug 30 an unnamed man, suspected as a fraudster using the Curtis Publishing company claim, was arrested after trying to sign Samuel W. Clapp to purchases. He refused to reveal his identity, with police labeling him W. H. Harris, likely George J. Byrne, as investigators trace the Curtis publishing scam and a circulating reward.
The Boston Post reports that Judge Charles S. Lilley of Lowell leads for the Democratic attorney general nomination with rivals Judge Putnam of Uxbridge and Senator Currier of Lawrence. Middlesex Democrats favor Lilley, but Lilley says he has graduated from politics and does not seek a nomination. State Committeeman James F. Owens of Lowell pushes Lilley’s candidacy in town.
Miss Henrietta Hemeler of Ingleside Long Island dislocated her jaw while playing tennis and chewing gum. She could not close her mouth until a physician set it. she later said she would never chew gum again. Her episode occurred August 29 and she recovered speech after treatment.
