Pittsburg reports seven weeks of steel strike with corporations claiming progress as mills restart while strikers gain control at McKeesport and Wheeling plants. Combine plants remain idle and no resumption efforts are seen.

St Louis August 31 A bold plan to free 88 prisoners from Madison county jail Edwardsville Illinois failed when the jailer's daughter alerted authorities She and 17 inmates including five murderers reached the corridor before the fire department halted the siege by water streams splitting the crowd and holding officials at bay until rescue crews arrived.

West bound Great Northern passenger train wrecked last night when a freight train split on the mountain. Assistant General Superintendent P. L. Downe and his son were killed in a special car, with many others injured.
In Philadelphia on August 31 the Delaware recovered two more victims, Amanda Cross, 21, of Philadelphia, and a unidentified woman. The death toll rises to 13 with 15 still missing, following the steamer City of Trenton disaster.
Lynn August 31 W W Harris arrested Thursday afternoon on charges of obtaining money under false pretences by soliciting subscriptions for a Philadelphia publication. He remains in the Lynn police station in $2600 bail, to appear in police court next Tuesday. Deputy Marshal Bartlett filed the Curtis Publishing affidavit.

The complex includes the main mill building dye house engine house and several storehouses with about three and a half acres of land and water rights. Carruthers a Reed manufacturer also owns other local buildings and will likely rent the property for manufacturing use.
The garbage committee met at city hall with all members except Alderman Miskella. Councilman Clark chaired a half hour discussion on crematories and proper garbage disposal. An attempted burglary at the Kennedy Biscuit company on Middle street failed last night before midnight. Officer Freeman heard breaking glass, pursued a fleeing man toward Central street, but the suspect escaped as he outran pursuit. No arrests reported.
The Lawrence committee led by Alderman White and Alderman Sherman will meet with the L L H Street Railway to discuss lowering Lawrence Lowell fares from 15 to 10 cents and providing transfers from the Haverhill line to Lawrence. President Bruce and others will preside at 2 o clock next Friday afternoon.

Mrs Margaret Rourke fractured her right ankle stepping on uneven ground while walking in her yard this morning. An ambulance transported her to St John's Hospital for treatment.
