Kansas City Aug 29 A leading French horse buyer sent an agent to purchase 3000 horses for cabs at the expo. So far 120 were shipped before a telegram ordered a stop to further purchases. French interest is thought to be stirred by the Dreyfus affair.
In San Francisco on August 29 officers announced more recruits are ready at the Presidio for Manila with the Pueblo sailing today carrying 650 aboard. The Warren is set to depart September 1 with 1200 men and the Columbia on September 5 with 800 more, effectively clearing the camp including a regiment traveling from the east.
Salvail and his sweetheart fled to Lowell to wed after plans to marry at a mutual friend's home. Parents rushed from Haverhill and Lowell to intervene but found the ceremony already completed. No license or city clerk’s record appeared in the local offices.
Members of Post 185 G A R signaled their intent to attend the national encampment in Philadelphia opening Monday September 4. Lieut Fairweather will succeed Capt Greig as military instructor during his absence. He will have charge of the high school battalion while Capt Alexander Greig is on leave granted at the regular school committee meeting Monday night.

A good sized audience enjoyed Old Sillavery Days at Lakeview theatre this week. The bill features vaudeville acts, dancers, singers and the Black Melba Madame Flower. The Golden Gate quartet, the Wilsons and the Spanders received applause for strong performances. Shows run at 3 and 8:15 with patrons urged to attend.
Boston becomes national center as New England delegations arrive for a large Portuguese celebrating event. Across the North End flags fly, banners greet Da Gama displays, and societies on Hanover street organize welcomes with consuls and clergy from several cities attending.
