A banking source linked to Bell telephone interests says the Bell company will reorganize and cease Massachusetts incorporation. Assets exceeding 70 million will transfer to the Long Distance company of New York, with 25 million in Bell stock called in and two and a half shares issued for each old share. The move, to exploit New York law for stock issues at par and fund rapid expansion, aims for at least 10 percent dividends on a larger capital. President Hudson is expected home soon to announce the plan.
A milk wagon was robbed of two barrels of whiskey last night by Officer Grady. No one has claimed the barrels at the police station. The horse belongs to George Taylor a Linday stable keeper. The wagon owner’s identity remains undetermined. A Lowell man called at the station with details.
A livery stable owner reported a horse and buggy hired by a Lowell man last night. The wagon disappeared and the police held the property at Peabody's stable for the owner. Superintendent Davis said a whiskey delivery through the city would not be an offense unless the destination lay inside city limits. The owner provided no ID for the hire, and the driver remains unidentified.
In police court four intoxicated individuals paid small fines while Edward F. Lynch was sentenced to the State farm. he appealed and was held in 200 dollars for higher court. Bridget McGovern was found guilty of illegal liquor sales and fined fifty dollars. Angeline Fountaine was convicted of theft at Bon Marche Dry Goods and sent to jail for four months after clerks testified.
A horse owned by Walter H. Bagshaw of Wilson Street was stolen from a hitching post in Lawrence. Lowell police issued descriptions. the animal was recovered in Newburyport this morning.
