In Louisville Kentucky on August 28 a spectacular competitive drill drew a crush of Knights Templars visitors while the grand encampment meeting proceeded and annual reports were read by officials.
Rochester Aug 28 The packing house of the Vacuum Oil Co a Standard Oil Co unit was destroyed by fire this morning. Loss about 200000. A long row of oil tanks was saved only by desperate efforts.
Clinton August 28 Descendants of Jonas and Lydia Prescott Fairbanks held a Lancaster shoreline reunion on the Nashua river with over 200 attendees. A permanent organization was formed and another gathering planned for 1902 at the Dedham Fairbanks homestead.
Members of the Fairbanks family from across the country gathered under the elms on Thayerfield in Lancaster for a reunion planned by Hon. J Wilder Fairbanks of Boston. Rev Francis J Fairbanks chaired the meeting, officers were elected, and a visit to the old cemetery closed the event as photographs were taken.
Boston August 28. Massachusetts Republicans are urged to send delegates to a state convention at the Boston theatre on Friday October 4 1901 at 10 am to nominate candidates for Governor Lieutenant Governor attorney general auditor treasurer receiver general and secretary for the November 5 1901 election. Delegates allotted by vote totals from 1900 with minimum one per ward or town. credentials required for admission. Caucuses to elect delegates to district conventions set for September 25.
The arrest warrant targets Malcol m H. T. Gall a prominent Haverhill lawyer accused of larceny amounting to 1000. Issued Aug 21 by Lawyer Carr for Horace J. Elliott of Newburyport. Gall has not been located and is believed to be away from the city. An inquiry records three mortgages on his office fixtures and personal property dated Aug 15 21 and 23 with amounts 135 250 and 192.50 respectively.
An old color returns gradually with Ayer’s Hair Vigor, stopping hair loss. The ad claims the product revives natural dark color over time and costs $1 at all druggists, by J.C. Ayer Co., Lowell, Massachusetts.
Mrs Edith Ryan, wife of painter Charles Ryan, is fatally burned when kerosene oil ignites while filling an oil stove at 78 Cosgrove Street. Her clothing bursts into flames, she collapses on a bed, a neighbor rescues her baby, John B Hoare and others attempt to smother the flames, and she is taken to St Johns Hospital in extreme agony with a critical prognosis.
Nashua police arrest two young men Edward Dube and William H Brennan for breaking and entering Earley’s store on Allds street. They plead guilty and post 700 securities each for September court. Police suspect a gang operating in Nashua Lowell and possibly Boston with connections to ongoing city burglaries.
Ellen Lerma faced a Lowell police court trial for assault and battery on Constable John McManus over an attachment on merry go rounds. Witnesses described force used. Lerma testified she was struck and dragged out. The court found her guilty, fined one dollar, with appeals filed. other defendants faced drunkenness or vagrancy charges with various outcomes.
About 75 altar boys from Immaculate Conception Church joined Rev Fr McGrath Fr Dorgan and Fr Sullivan OMI on a Mountain Rock trip. A baseball game with Sacred Heart boys, plus races and sports, concluded with a hearty luncheon.
A thief entered the kitchen of A. R. Thompson on Ralph street yesterday morning and took a pocketbook with $1.60. This morning Daniel J. Conlon, a peddler, was arrested by Officer Lennon in Belvidere on the same case, charged with the offense. Conlon was selling a composition called Ivorine.
Mr William Block and Miss Lillian Cohen were married by Rabbi Wolfson in Associate Hall last night in a Jewish rite. Guests enjoyed music by a Boston orchestra and a 10 o'clock supper. The newlyweds will reside on Summer street.
George Pelneault and Miss Corinne Gosselin married Tuesday afternoon at St Josephs parochial residence by Rev Fr Nolin O M I. A reception followed at 37 Dalton Street.
In Boston a white man identifying as William Langdon of 374 Columbus Avenue reported loss of about $38 after meeting a colored woman in the South End. They left a doorway on Isabella Street around 12:30 a.m. Monday. police notified. Also, Walpole accepted Andrew Carnegie's $15,000 gift for a town library and discussed a site at Common Street and Lewis Avenue. A Saturday rainstorm damaged Boston macadam roads by an estimated $10,000 to $15,000, with widespread injuries prompting resurfacing.
D Gage Funt, secretary of the Lynn school board for 17 years, resigns to pursue business interests.
In Havana on August 2 the infected mosquito bite linked to Dr Caldes serum led to a genuine yellow fever case. Dr Caldes has not yet seen the patient.
Fletcher family members gather in Tremont Temple Boston on September 4 at 9 30 a m to mark their organization. Austin B Fletcher and Judge Robert S Parker deliver addresses with poems by J M Fletcher and song by Etta Kileski Bradbury. Carter's orchestra provides music, dinner at 12 20, descendants urged to attend. A Plymouth excursion is planned for September 5.

The regular mid week service runs 7 30 to 8 with Miss Bennett leading. A monthly Comfort club meeting follows and every member is urged to attend. An invitation is extended to strangers. No woman has entered St Catherine convent on Mt Sinai for 1400 years.
