In Boston on August 22 the executive committee of the Democratic state committee convened at Albion building. Col A C Drinkwater presided with members Walsh Lynn McNary Boston Corbett Boston Cunniff Boston Tworoger Everett Glynn Springfield Gilmore Brockton Sullivan Fall River. A subcommittee was formed to set the state convention date and report by August 31. Vacancies were filled by Gore Boston and Baker Newton to replace Callahan Holyoke and Crowley Danvers, with Edwards Springfield Schaefer Winchester filled in various districts.
In Mont Vernon New Hampshire on August 22 thirty two players who advanced Tuesday faced match play to decide first and consolation prizes. Morning fog hindered play then clearing skies allowed all matches to finish with Richardson defeating Peck 4 up 3 to play and dozens of other outcomes finalizing the consolation cup results.
Roanoke Virginia August 21 The Republican state convention tonight nominated Col J Hampton Hoge of Roanoke for governor The platform will be adopted tomorrow with Hoge seen as leading candidate for the ticket and statewide support expected from Roanoke and allied factions.
The ad lists Traders services including foreign exchange letters of credit travellers cheques and deposit boxes priced at five dollars per year with coupon rooms available.
The Traders National Bank transacts general banking business with foreign exchange in English French German and Swedish money. It offers safety deposit boxes private rooms and a savings department paying 4 percent per annum compounded semi annually with monthly rest begins. Banking hours are 8 am to 4 pm weekdays 8 am to 1 pm Saturdays and 7 to 9 pm. Banking rooms located at 30 to 46 Middlesex Street and 11 to 24 Post Office Avenue.
Pittsburg reports a wave of progress for masters as American Tin Plate Co. begins 32 new workers and two mills gear up to start. Lindsay & McCutcheon plant resumes, Jinney mill opened, Painter plant enrolls 250. Seven foreigners arrested for a disturbance at Pennsylvania Tube plant faced strict penalties, with the judge urging firm police enforcement and dismissing language excuses.
Ameri can Tin Plate officials escorted 32 non union workers to operate the Star plant in Pittsburg Pennsylvnia. The workers were brought from the train into the mill guarded by company officials and 25 policemen in a hollow square. Strikers attempted to approach them but were unable to talk. Six men reportedly broke away and fled to the hills.
Patrick Griffin of Kittery Maine reported to police that two young women he met in town drugged him with knock out drops and stole $36 from his pockets while he had about $375 cash on hand. Griffin described the women and police began an investigation as he left the city for Nashua.
Labor meeting in Lowell drafts resolution urging President, Senators, and Congress to back an eight hour workday law. Textiles council warns of strike risk if Fall River cuts proceed and calls for federal action to curb long factory hours and unsafe conditions. William F. Rafferty presided as delegates from all unions attended.

Judge Pickman’s court saw low turnout as several first class offenders were fined. Maud Daly Harrington Wilson and Celia Connors paid 2 dollars each. Thomas Welch had a 6 dollar fee plus a six month probation. John Lynch and Bessie Bryan paid 6 dollars. John A Thornton received a six month jail sentence after a post graduate state farm course offer was altered. William P Green faced continued detainment for alleged newspaper theft. Thomas T Roach’s case delayed until Saturday. James Constantin’s larceny case settled out of court.
